Catching Snowflakes {Feeling Crafty}

Image

If you’ve poked around my blog at all, you know I have a love for Lain Ehmann’s Layout a Day (LOAD). It’s a month long scrapbooking challenge that takes place three times per year, and May is one of those months. It’s a wonderful way to create scrapbook pages based on daily prompts – some are silly, some are insightful, some are reflective, all are open for interpretation, and many are flat out amazing! Some of my most favorite scrapbook pages I’ve ever made have come out of LOAD over the past year, where the prompts have inspired me to tell a story or scrap a photo that I really don’t think I would’ve ever considered on my own.

Yesterday’s prompt inspired me to create a page about the first time my daughters experienced snow! It was an amazing experience to watch the spark in their eyes, particularly my then 4 year old. She really wanted to catch snowflakes on her tongue!

I decided I wanted to create my own background paper, as I wanted the color to really pick up the light turquoise in their hats. Using Hero Arts snowflake stamp, VersaMark watermark stamp, and Stamp-n Stuff in Star Dust, I heat embossed the glittery snowflakes onto my white cardstock base. I started with stamping in the top center section of the page, spilling off the top edge. Then I rotated the stamp 1/4 turn and stamped to each side of the first stamp mark. It’s a little hard to see because the watermark can look transparent, but even if you overlap a little, it still looks beautiful!

On top of that, I blended Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Stormy Sky, in that order, gradually varying the colors for depth texture. I love how it turned out!

Punching out snowflakes and embossing them to make embellishments helped complete the look. The cute “so happy” banner is from Carta Bella’s new “So Noted” collection – love that line! I also love that I used some really old products – like the pink border strip across the bottom, as well as the thickers for my title. I think these have each been in my stash for at least a few years! Thanks again to Lain for challenging us to use up our stash!!

Thanks for stopping by and have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!
Live creatively!
