I can’t help but want to share a set of photos I used on another LOAD513 layout! I love these photos from last summer! An obvious benefit of scrapbooking is actually working with my photos and not just leaving them unloved on my hard drive. When you make layouts, it’s clear to see the growth and changes in your loved ones, too. It’s amazing how fast my babies are growing, changing, moving farther from baby and further into little girls.

We’re lucky to live near the coast. And although it was a very gray day at the beach, that didn’t stop my girls from having fun! They love the ocean. Positively, absolutely, undoubtedly, they love the ocean. And the sand. And sea shells. They totally get that from their Daddy. He’s out there as much as he can, from late spring to early fall, enjoying the waves. So my girls? They’re my own little mermaids!

As I was photographing my family on this outing, I had recently picked up a new lens (Tamron 18-270) and decided to really try to use the tele zoom extremes. I wanted some close up shots, and although I usually focus on my girls faces, I decided to go the opposite route. I composed my shots to not include their faces. I also shot from behind. I shot them being themselves as much as I could, and it was actually quite nice as I comfortably sat in my beach chair and shot away. Such a rarity! I love how the tutu suit shot came out! She was running by, playing, oblivious to the lens. Love it!

I also wanted to take in the ocean. Since it was such a gray day, not many others were out in the water even though it was end of August, and I love how little my girls look in comparison to the ocean’s grandeur and vastness.

I ended up creating a layout using a few of my shots, a ton of paper scraps I had on hand, and loosely based on a sketch over at ScrapHappy.org. I absolutely adore how this page came out!

I wanted the paper strips to mimic the waves of the ocean, so I hand tore the edges using a tool from Creative Memories.

Besides the tearing tool, the only other supplies I used (besides adhesives) were some bakers twine, washi tape, bling and metallic pearls.

For my title I used Amy Tangerine Sketchbook Muse Woodgrain Thickers and I added my journaling on vellum. I so totally love the way this came out!
