It’s all about the Stuff {Photo Fridays}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // back-to-school shoe shopping; two little girls, five pairs of shoes, all PINK!

Okay, clearly it’s not about the “stuff” but I do think photographing the stuff helps tell the tale of who we are, what we are about. And in this case, it’s particularly about the very girly daughters I’ve been blessed with!

Seeing it’s Friday, I’d like to share this photo tip with you: When photographing your loved ones, don’t forget to capture their favorite stuff, as well.

  • Stuff they DO
  • Stuff they WEAR
  • Stuff they EAT
  • Stuff they LOVE

This kind of stuff gets forgotten. Sometimes it’ll be in the background or foreground of other shots. But take the time to make them the star of your photos.

Whether it’s collections…

or favorite games…

or favorite foods…

or favorite activities…

Whatever they’re “into” – make sure to take the time to photograph it, because time flies, tastes change and next thing you know, they won’t even remember that being something so incredibly special! And of course as a dedicated memory keeper, I have to say… don’t just photograph the stuff… DOCUMENT it! Make sure you write down what your loved ones loved about it. What was special about it? Why was it important? This sort of stuff will be worth gold in the future!! And where should you put these tidbits? In a scrapbook or photo book of course! Okay, truth-be-told: did you roll your eyes or laugh when you read scrapbook? It makes me laugh that some people have a very specific view of scrapbookers: grandmas with lots of cats or clutter or doilies? So not the reality! The industry is full of hip, cool, fresh, artistic, creative people and products! Check it out!

As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!
Live creatively!

PS. The theme for the week at A Word in Your Ear is Pink, and considering the pinkness in my first few shots, I decided to play along in the challenge. Link up in the comments if you’re playing along too!

  1. Love those shoes! I know some little girls who’d like them, too. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Nice collection of Distress Inks you have in your background. 🙂

  2. Great post: I’m so not a girly girl, and was totally relieved to have a son. Does mean I’ve spent a lot of time photographing sports matches, heavy metal bands (he was a bass player) and skateboarding. 🙂

      • I “knew” in my heart that I was having a boy – even though the doc at the 20 week scan claimed it was a girl! I remember being hugely pregnant and stumbling into the girls’ section of Mothercare. Confronted with a sea of frothy pink all I could think was “please don’t let it be a girl.” I grew up in a household of boys and really don’t “get” a lot of the stuff I see girls doing. I identify myself as a feminist, and my son is being raised – I hope – to understand feminist issues and be respectful to women without reinforcing stereotypes. I think that the best kind of parenting I could do.
