It really is amazing how framing your image can tell such different stories. Over a year ago, when finishing up my classes at UCSD Extension, we headed out to Balboa Park for a field trip. Our class assignment was to shoot with the intention of making it look like we weren’t at Balboa Park. I actually blogged about it back then, and you can read about it here.
I knew the cactus garden would be an ideal spot, and then my beautiful and brave friend Jennifer courageously agreed to go in and get tangled in the tree. But if we step back and take in the entire view, you can see what a vastly different image we get.. drumroll…
And having Jennifer move even closer into the tree, changes the perspective with the cactus in the foreground as seen in this image…
Notice how big the cactus in the foreground became? It was tiny in the first image showing the entire tree, but in this image just above, the plants look enormous! Framing and composing your image really makes such a huge difference, don’t you think? I think each of these photos tell such different stories, but I absolutely love the first image! I think it looks like we were in a very exotic and remote location, far away from our daily mommy duties : )

Cool entry …. a serious cactus …. didn’t expect it to be that big looking at the first shot.

Thanks Viveka! I actually went back today and was again surprised how big it is! I think my images don’t do it’s size justice : )

It’s difficult to capture great and grand with a camera.
You did the right thing – let a person stand beside. Very cool entry
