I recently had the pleasure to guest speak with the Ministry of Mother’s (MOMs) at my church. The MOMs group is a fantastic membership group which provides monthly meetings with wonderful topics and guest speakers, as well as fun socials during the school year. I was approached to discuss Scrapbooking to the group and jumped at the opportunity to share my hobby and passion!

One of the best parts of the scrapbooking community is the people in the community! Everyone is super helpful, friendly, supportive and passionate about getting our photos and stories down on paper. I asked several of the communities I belong to this question: “What do you wish you knew as a beginner scrapbooker that you know now?” I received an amazing plethora of responses! Probably Definitely enough to merit it’s very own blog post, so for now I’ll summarize to say that overwhelmingly, people wish they would have journaled (written down the story) more. Kept better details and notes of the memories. Bought less and created more.

I was really nervous as I prepared my presentation. Maybe excited more so than nervous, but two cups of coffee was waaaaaay more than enough for me that morning! As we discussed the benefits of story-telling and honoring our memories and photos, lots of questions came up from the group, and I thought I would take those bits and pieces to share with you, too.

So, there’s going to be lots of links. Some to scrappers who have greatly influenced me, some to affiliate links (gotta keep funding this passion!), some to sites I love and visit all.the.time, some to links provided by friends in the industry when I asked what links they’d share with beginner scrapbookers. All are resources that make our scrappy world go round and I think you’ll enjoy them!

    • That will be fantastic, Lana! When you travel, take a journal with you to jot notes of sites, locations and most importantly – your feelings! We’re lucky to have the internet to look up all the history stuff, but it’s our personal story that is up to us to write down to share with future generations!     • You’re welcome 🙂 As much as I enjoy taking my time to create, I realize that the more you do it, the quicker you get – you become more comfortable with your style and make decisions faster! There’s a month long challenge (Layout a Day) in Feb & May (Oct too for ScrapHappy members) where we create a layout daily and that really helps in the timing department too! Occasionally I’ll even challenge myself to only spend 30 mins or 1 hr and when time is up, I’m done! Thanks for commenting!
