Those moments that make you laugh for days or weeks, maybe even months? The kind of laugh that makes your face hurt, spit your drink out and pee your pants because it’s so funny?! Those are the moments we never want to forget! They are priceless! But sadly, they do get forgotten over time. New memories, to do’s, life in general keeps moving along and pushing those memories farther out. That’s really, genuinely, sincerely one of the BEST parts of being a memory keeper. <– It’s right there in the name… I’m KEEPing those memories.

Like this one of my baby girl! It was my big girl’s end-of-year kindergarten party and I was able to bring my then just-turned-3 year old for the fun as well. There were lawn races and water activities, and one of the funniest was watching a bunch of 5- and 6-year olds hula hoop. Oh, the coordination (or lack thereof) was hilarious! Then throw my 3-yr old into the mix… yup, pee my pants kinda funny! She would hold the hoop out around her so she was perfectly in the middle, but instead of swooshing it around her body to get the motion going on the hoop, she would just let go of the hoop, it would drop to the ground, and she would stand in the center and just shake-shake-shake her booty! It was side-splitting funny! Even as I type this, I’m smiling ear-to-ear remembering her shenanigans!

So I will continue to share my memories with my family by creating scrapbooking layouts. I know my memories will fade over time, but having these pages to look back on warms my heart and brings a smile to my face. I hope my girls cherish these documented memories as they get older and forget their own experiences as well!

Some scrappy tips on the layout itself:

  • I love adding layers of paper, but I’m also a bit of a saver cheap, so if there’s a big portion of the paper that’s being covered by other paper? I’ll cut in 1/2″ from each edge so I can use that portion on another project!
  • I have more baker’s twine than I know what to do with! I’ve used this color combo on Christmas layouts, but it worked great with this color combo too!
  • Fussy cutting and layering using similar colors, then distressing all the edges ties it all together to look even more cohesive!
  • Circle cutters worked wonderfully to tie in the Hula Hoop look and feel! Think about the subject in your layouts too and figure out how to incorporate that into your design!

  1. That’s a beautiful page. I love the colours and all the dots/circles to tie in with the hula hoop. I like inking too. I am working on three albums at the moment – one for me and one each for my two daughters.
