I really wanted to play along with today’s 10 on 10 circle – I miss the creativity all these women have in our little photog-community! Sharing our posts and finding inspiration in their work is a monthly treat – I love curling up with a cup of coffee and enjoying everyone’s posts! And even though I’m photographing tons these days, it’s mostly been client family photo sessions. I absolutely love those sessions. Especially the sessions with little kids, because I truly never know what I’m going to get! Ha!

So even though I’m behind the lens a lot these days, I haven’t had much time to just wander our beautiful San Diego areas and photograph creatively. So as I looked out my window, contemplating what I could post for our November 10 on 10, I spotted a beautiful tree in one of our neighbor’s yards. And that’s when I decided I would challenge myself to take 30 minutes and photograph fall foliage around our neighborhood!

Well, the tree I spotted? Turns out it’s in their backyard. I thought it was on the side, where I could casually grab a few shots, but no such luck. So, I decided to hop in the car and head to church just a few minutes away. I haven’t photographed any family sessions there lately, but there are a few beautiful trees towards the back of the property that actually change colors with the seasons! I love San Diego, trust me I do, but we have so much green. Yes, I said so much green – and not a lot of trees with leaves that become that amazing fiery red or burnt orange or golden yellow, like so many of our eastern states do. But those trees at the back of our church? They do!

So I headed over there and had myself a little fun. I challenged myself with these three limitations:

  1. to limit my time to 30-minutes;
  2. to use only one lens (I chose my macro – Tamron 90mm – which I don’t use enough); and
  3. no moving or staging anything – what I photographed had to be found that way

So off I went and had myself some time to just breathe, shoot, and enjoy the beauty of the season! Have you done that lately?! I highly recommend it!

Well, I hope you enjoyed taking a little breather and enjoying the fall foliage with me! Consider yourself lucky that I didn’t focus my camera on my current fall obsession: everything and anything pumpkin flavored! Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Fall Foliage in San Diego, leaves, autumn, colors, red, burnt orange, yellow, seasons, autumn, happy fallConnie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Fall Foliage in San Diego, leaves, autumn, colors, red, burnt orange, yellow, seasons, autumn, happy fall

  1. I am so happy you played along this month – I really love your macro-fall leafs, but my favorites are image number three and four, the green leaf and the funny looking dead seed or flower – they are awesome. I wish you an inspiring fall and pre-winter 🙂

  2. Love what you captured in your little 30-minute break, Connie. Given my shared love for all things pumpkin I think I’m going to vote the pumpkin stem detail shot as my favorite!
