Make It Monday // Top Dog Dies Christmas Shaker Card

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Christmas shaker card using Top Dog Dies, Christmas ornament, Christmas shaker, shaker card, video, tutorial

Are you the type that starts Christmas projects in July? Then I have a fun card for you!

MakeItMondayButton-Christmas2Welcome to another Make It Monday! It’s the last Monday in July, so I wanted to share another Christmas project :) I couldn’t resist making another shaker card – with the goodies inside the ornament, no less!

This adorable die is from Top Dog Dies, and lucky for you, they’re having a Christmas in July sale! Use code CIJ2015 through July 28th and save 10% off all Christmas and Winter items! I used the Top Dog Dies Ornament & Tags #1 Die Set, but there are tons of goodies you must check out!

I tend to shy away from making too intricate of cards during the holidays, especially when I’m making lots as in Christmas cards, so I wanted to make a really fast and easy project! The die set has several layers and I was able to whizz-bang through the cuts in no time. I think this card took about 10 -15 minutes to make. And who wouldn’t love to receive a fun shaker card during the holidays?!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Christmas shaker card using Top Dog Dies, Christmas ornament, Christmas shaker, shaker card, video, tutorial

The additional pieces are stunning, like this intricate layering piece. So gorgeous!

1. Cut the accent pieces from gold paper.

2. Cut a white piece of cardstock into a 4″ x 5-1/4″ rectangle to fit inside a standard A2 card (4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″).

3. Cut the ornament form the rectangle piece, being sure to leave a border all around the edges.

4. Cut a piece of foam slightly smaller than the rectangle, then cut a hole slightly bigger than the ornament size so the foam would not show through the hole.

5. Glued piece of acetate to back of rectangle card stock.

6. Glued ornament details (intricate center strip and ornament clasp) onto front of rectangle card stock.

7. Glued foam piece to back of rectangle card stock piece, being sure none of the foam showed through.

8. Added holiday color piece of paper onto front of card to show through the acetate/ornament.

9. Filled center area of shaker card with sequins and beads.

10. Securely / firmly glued rectangle piece onto card base. Voila! Shaker card!

Hope you’re inspired to make a shaker card of your own! I actually just shared a Palm Tree shaker card I made on my YouTube channel. It’s using the same idea as the Christmas ornament shaker card, except using the Palm Tree Dies, also from Top Dog Dies! If the written instructions didn’t make sense up above, hopefully this visual will help! And if you don’t have foam sheets, you can always use foam tape to create your own spacing for the shaker, just make sure you have a nice even layer!

MakeItMondayButton-Christmas2I hope you enjoyed that and are ready to continue the Make It Monday circle! Be sure to hop on over to see what Karen at Photos Kept Alive is up to these days. I’ll give you a hint: it includes an upcoming trip and camera choices… definitely has me curious! We all struggle with that question on so many occasions…my camera phone or my big camera. Hop on over to see what Karen has to say!

As always, thanks for stopping by my little colorful spot on the web! Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!

San Diego Maternity Photography {H&M Sneak Peek}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // San Diego maternity photo session , beach maternity photos,Expecting your first baby is definitely a time filled with emotions. Excitement, love, joy, hope, and maybe a little bit of fear of the unknown! When I was pregnant with my first baby, I remember feeling pure bliss at the amazingness of creating a baby – I felt such a closeness to God, to be entrusted to bring a child into the world, and to be blessed to be her mommy. And now, when I’m with others who are pregnant, I’m reminded of that feeling and get giddy with excitement that they get that beautiful blessing too!

This gorgeous young couple is welcoming their first baby in the next few weeks and I was thrilled to chat with them about their upcoming photo needs! We picked a date for the maternity photo session at the the beach. Apparently, all of of San Diego wanted to be at the same beach that day, so we had to do a bit of maneuvering to avoid the crowds ;) But then, as we were approaching the rocky shore and cliffs, the waves decided to have some fun with us! They were HUGE! I was a little nervous considering we were close to the edge, but she was cool as a cucumber! Definitely a great trait for an expecting mommy!

Make It Monday // Hot Air Balloons

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handmade cupcake toppers using Top Dog Dies, hot air balloon theme
MakeItMondayButton-JulyWelcome to another Make It Monday! I’m back this week with a cute Hot Air Balloon party theme! I was inspired by the adorable Top Dog Dies and knew exactly what I wanted to make…

It’s truly mind-blowing how fast time flies. I vividly remember our first days at home with our daughters, and now they’re 8 and 6 years old! It’s amazing how quickly they’re growing!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handmade cupcake toppers using Top Dog Dies, hot air balloon theme

The Hot Air Balloon dies are super cute and the details are gorgeous. The set includes two sizes of balloons, one basket, and three clouds. Perfect for great variations, like the cupcake toppers I made, incorporating the various clouds and pop dots for dimension!

I’m sure any kid would love to get one of these gorgeous toppers atop they’re scrumptious party treat! I’m out of lollipop sticks, but if I was making these for a party, I would definitely add some of the die cuts to lollipop sticks and some to bamboo forks in order to add a nice height variation on the tablescape. That would be darling for obvious reasons!

In addition to the cupcake toppers, of course I had to make a banner to highlight the theme, “GROWING UP UP UP” – fun, right?! I think so :)

I was lucky enough to meet this cutie pie’s parents in the spring when they were preparing her nursery! As luck would have it, we ended up chatting nurseries and photography and I was thrilled when they hired me in anticipation of Baby M’s arrival! Life is funny that way, isn’t it?!

Baby M ended up arriving a bit ahead of schedule, but we were able to coordinate our date and luckily took these before she was even a week old! That’s definitely what I find to be the magical sweet spot for newborn baby photos!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // baby girl, newborn photo session - sleeping baby, pearls, roses, head wreath, basket

Talk about a lovely personality and sweet disposition! Baby M was a delight to photograph. She smiled and cooed, slept like and angel, and smiled some more! She even gave me a little shoulder roll a couple times. I think this little one has the title “Super Model” in her future! <3

Make It Monday // Top Dog Dies Flamingo Invite

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handmade cards using Top Dog Dies, flamingo bridal shower invitation

Can you believe it?! I’m back with a second Make It Monday post today! If you didn’t catch my first post, about the Christmas in July Bundle, be sure to check that one out too!

MakeItMondayButton-Christmas2I’m sharing an adorable invitation using two gorgeous dies: Top Dog Dies Flamingo Die Set and the Top Dog Dies Pennant Banner – I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love these dies!

Ever since the spring, when my sister and her friends took a girls trip to Palm Springs, I’ve been smitten with pink flamingos! So when I saw that Top Dog Dies had a flamingo, I knew I was in for some fun!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handmade cards using Top Dog Dies, flamingo bridal shower invitation

This invitation was surprisingly easy to put together, primarily because of the great quality of the dies. They cut like butta! Here’s what I did to make the invite:

1. Took two different pink papers to cut the flamingo from, and I used an aged aqua/teal paper to cut the bit of water for the flamingo to stand in, as well as the banner.

2. Created the invitation in Photoshop, but I could’ve just as easily used Word to create it as it’s mostly verbiage. While creating the digital portion, I made sure to leave room to add the die cuts of the flamingo and banner.

3. I had some left over alphas from an old kit and loved how easy it was to add them to the banner. I trimmed the banner pieces just a tad to fit the limited space, but that just took a little snip on each side. Easy peasy.

4. All of the pieces were glued down on the invitation, and a little bling was added to the flamingo’s eye for the final touch.

I said it was easy! What do you think? I love it and hope you do too!
