Enveloped // Snack Attack {Photo Challenge}

After school, after ballet, after playing in the backyard, my girls are always looking for a snack! Luckily, they love fruit, it is nature’s candy after all! But good heavens those delectable little treats that they devour sure are expensive! But as long as they keep eating them, I’ll keep the fridge stocked!

My sweet photogra-friend Jeannie Thiessen did a phenomenal photo project last year – her Hand Project – capturing all kinds of beautiful and everyday goodness and photographing it in hands, mostly hers! I couldn’t help but feel I was channeling my inner Jeannie when I asked my baby girl to hold her bowl of blueberries so I could get this shot!

Sure, it might look like she’s offering to share her blueberries, but trust me, I was getting the stink eye at even the thought of diving in for a taste! And on a side note, it’s kinda funny to watch my girls as they envelop and protect their bowls of yumminess, reminiscent of Gollum protecting his precious ring 🙂

PS. Curious about photo editing? I rarely post a photo without giving it a little love in Lightroom. I shared a photo edit in the Capture Your 365 community today. I transformed a lovely night shot I captured of the Eiffel Tower, giving it a little more oomph and color…yes, in a night shot! Check it out HERE!

Wall // She’s Tough {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // child kid photography, locations, unexpected, wall

My community is really quite lovely. It’s in San Diego, California, and it’s a suburb with a “country living” vibe. It’s a great community, and even though it’s rather large (we have 4 public elementary schools, with about 600 – 800 in each school!), it has a very close, small town feel. Sometimes friends refer to it as living in the bubble. Some call it Mayberry. It’s easy to stay in our neighborhood for weeks on end and suddenly realize you’ve been in the bubble a little too long!

There are times when a photo vision comes to mind. Sometimes inspiration hits for a very specific look, with a distinct feel. That’s exactly what happened, but finding an urban vibe in the bubble can be a bit challenging! So while my little one and I were at one of our many local parks, I noticed the texture on this wall. I knew I had to incorporate it into my shot and fulfill my urban vision!

Getting out of the bubble just isn’t in the cards sometimes with school schedules, volunteer commitments, work obligations, playdates, family, etc., so making do with what we have around us is essential. Last weekend I taught my first live online photography class: “Location, location, location!” It was such a blast! I’m on the Creative Team at Capture Your 365 and we were celebrating our 4th birthday with a day full of live photography lessons, photo critiques, photo scavenger hunt, and more! We had lots to celebrate and an online web room full of photographers of all levels from around the world to celebrate with! Can you imagine the all the daily photo prompts that have gone into 4 years? Pretty amazing, and still going strong!

My “location, location, location” segment was wonderfully received, so I’m now working on turning it into an e-book. Pretty exciting stuff and more to come on that subject soon!

One of the examples I shared was the photo of my baby girl in all her toughness (and cuteness!) against the wall. Want to know a secret? That wall? It’s the wall of the bathrooms at the park! Yes, that gritty, urban wall… the entrance to the park bathroom! In my e-book, I’ll share my tips and tricks on spotting locations that you wouldn’t necessarily think to use for backgrounds in your photos, transporting your viewer to a destination other than reality, incorporating surroundings in unexpected ways!

Orange // Neighborhood Flowers {Photo Challenge}

Somedays, I just need a 10-minute stretch photo walk to feel refreshed! Thankfully, these flowers were just steps away and game me a chance to get a few shots for this week’s “Orange you glad it’s photo challenge time” with the Daily Post!

I’m still experimenting with my new Tamron 90mm Macro, and loving the crispness in the shots. I haven’t used a tripod yet, but can only imagine the results I’ll get then!

Scale // Perspective {Photo Challenge}

Playing with scale, emphasizing proportions, is definitely a great way to help tell your story in photos. The Daily Post photo challenge this week “Scale” reminded me of some of the fun photos I’ve shared in the past! Join me as I stroll down memory lane with five of my favorite photos playing with scale 🙂

Post inspired by the weekly photo challenge “Depth” and the Capture Your 365 prompt “Commitment” – I’m inspired to continue to follow my photography and craft teaching dreams through those open doors ❤

I often find beauty in unexpected places. I captured this photo at my church, in a side area, leading to a back garden area. It’s amazing what you can find around you when your heart finds bliss, your mind is clear, and you have the serenity of a quiet church!
