It’s Friday, which means the Daily Post came out with a new photo challenge for theΒ week: Texture! Lucky for me, I grabbed these shots earlier this summerΒ while my hubby, daughters and I headed to the beach for a sunset walk. There’s an old… wait, before I tell you about what’s in the shot, I have to give you some backstory…
Years ago, I knew the kinds of images I wanted to capture – images just like these – I could see them in my mind, but I didn’t know how to get them. Have you been there? Have you envisioned a specific image, but aren’t quite sure how to capture it? Well, I’m going to share with you two aspects that have been monumental in my development as a photographer…
1. Knowledge is POWER! If you’ve read a blog post or two (or a hundred) here at Clicky Chick Creates, then you know I’m an education junkie. When I am passionate about a subject, I want to learn all there is about it. And that has definitely remained steadfast in my evolution as a photographer.
The first thing that rocked my world behind the lens: learning to shoot in manual mode.Β Taking the power of the camera, developing your eye and shooting with intention? Absolute recipe for success!
2. Shooting with INTENTION… that’s right, I said it again! But I don’t mean “oh, I want to photograph a yellow rose!” I mean looking at our everyday environments, whether we’re at home, work, school, running errands, running for exercise, or running away for a vacation, looking around and enjoying the little details. It’s the beauty in those details, those everyday bits and pieces of our days, that beckon to be photographed.
Being part of Katrina Kennedy’s Capture Your 365 community and “Practice!” class has been a beautiful daily reminder to be thoughtful in the everyday surroundings, wherever I may be, and has without a doubtΒ elevated my everyday intentional shooting. That’s whyΒ I’m honored and excited to announce another giveaway…
But firstΒ imagine… ImagineΒ you’re able to take more control of your camera, harness the power in that DSLR and get the shots you want! Well, you’re in luck!

So what did I photograph? What are those images of? An old fence? A piece of a bench? A favorite restaurant? It’s the Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach, San Diego, California π It’s old, worn, rickety and quite lovely β€ And the green in the background? The Pacific Ocean underneath the pier!
As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!
Live creatively!

Connie…first let me say I LOVE these texture photographs (and the other photos I’ve seen over the years on Capture)! If you’ve seen any of my photos on Katrina’s 365 page, you know I love the little details, the macro, the bits and pieces of everyday life. I would love an opportunity to take Katrina’s “Your Life Captured Through the Lens” class to learn more about making the images in my head come out of my DSLR. Thanks for the opportunity! π

I LOVE photographing detail like that. I take my camera with me on a lot of jaunts although it’s nice to have the IPhone too. Love Camera Plus BTW, it’s by go to camera now. I have the biggest problem setting manual mode for some reason. I can shoot well in Aperture priority and Shutter priority, but trying to go completely manual flumoxes me beyond belief.

I was sure it was a park bench! Wrong again! I’d love to learn how to use manual mode to shoot inside my home, using the light available.

Lol, Linda! I could see thinking it was a bench, especially with the greenish tinge in the water π And learning how to use manual mode, along with understanding the triangle of ISO, aperture and shutter speed, is key to shooting indoors!

Ooh, I really love the knothole picture – something about the wood curves around the hole really intrigues me!
I’d love to take one of Katrina’s classes. I used to really love photography – especially macro, but I got busy with other things. I’d love to have something to help me jumpstart that passion again!
