Product choices can help make our layout choices so much easier! I loved these photos of my baby girl and the vibe they gave with her dress and the retro kitchen. Digging through my stash, I found some old Teresa Collins journaling cards on a 12×12 sheet and loved the design. I wanted to mimic the feel of it, so I cut out a similar shape on pink cardstock using my Slice e-cutter, then heat embossed the edge of it with black embossing powder for the close-up photo.

Using a punch on the edge for the bigger frame, I used the same heat embossing technique to create a custom look on the frame. Neither frame is “perfect” but it looks very vintage which works for this layout!

Adding details in similar colors and to support the vintage vibe just pulls it all together, even though all the pieces are from separate collections, spanning at least 5 years! I don’t make a lot of my own kits, but this layout inspires me to do that and create custom kits to meet my eclectic needs! How about you? Do you use kits? Do you create your own kits? I’d love to hear your insights and tips!

The photos were taken at a friend’s birthday party, but wouldn’t that be an adorable kitchen to use as a photo prop in a studio?! I totally loved it!
