“The days are long and the years are short” – the first time I ever heard this expression, it rang so, so true for me and my life with my daughters. And as a photographer, I think it especially speaks true for new moms! The first few months are just a blur when a new baby is born.
Besides getting used to a whole new world with baby, you feel like you’re in a perpetual cycle of nursing, burping, changing diapers, rocking to sleep…repeat. After doing that for a few weeks, you realize how time is flying by although you feel that the days never end!
When baby Dylan’s mom contacted me regarding newborn photos, she was concerned that missing the ideal 10-days old window would mean not capturing newborn photos of her sweet baby boy. But we chatted about the reality, that even though Baby Dylan was almost 7 weeks old, he’d never be that small again! So we set a date and captured these adorable images of her growing boy!
He’s absolutely adorable, a sweet cuddle bug, and I was thrilled we were actually able to get some dreamy, sleepy baby shots! When my first daughter was born, my husband and I read Dr. Harvey Karp’s “The Happiest Baby on the Block” book – all about the 5 S’s to help calm and soothe your baby. I use these methods in my photo sessions and they work like a charm! I think I’m actually more patient and better at the 5 s’s with babies at our photo sessions than I was with my own babies! But sshhh, don’t tell my girls!
I loved photographing this sweet family and I hope they enjoyed the experience, too!
