Make It Monday // Plan with Me May

MakeItMondayCircle-RED-CORAL-MAYWelcome to another Make It Monday! I hope you celebrated a lovely Mother’s Day this weekend with your loved ones near and far! I’m sharing a fun post with you today featuring my new Inkwell Press Planner and a video sharing how I set up my week featuring lots of stamps!

In my last Make It Monday post I shared that I was loving digging into my stash from years gone by and using stamps that hadn’t received very much (if any) love. Well, it happened again as I reached for old stamps to use in my new planner!

Have you heard of the Inkwell Press Planner (IWP)? I was torn between the IWP and the Erin Condren (ECLP) planners, and decided to make the jump with the Inkwell Press. I loved the idea of being able to break my days into segments that I needed, and the overall monthly goals page, although I haven’t set up that page yet!

I created a process video sharing how I set up my spread for the week. I ended up mostly stamping and not using very many stickers. I have quite a collection of those too, so I’ll be digging into that stash for an upcoming video. I’m sure there are some gems in there!

LOAD Prep! What the what? {Feeling Crafty}

2013-02-06_9572

LOAD what? A load of laundry? Load the dishwasher? Nope, LOAD as in Layout-a-Day, the most magical time of the year, right next to Christmas of course!

If you’ve come to Clicky Chick Creates from the LOAD215 Blog Hop, welcome!

For those not familiar with LOAD, it’s a month long challenge to document life via memory keeping / scrapbooking. We receive a daily prompt, create a layout, upload it to our private Flickr group gallery and ooh- and aah- over all the gorgeous layouts in the gallery! No running to a physical class or crop, as it’s all done from the luxury of our own computer. You might get part of your layout done between work, school or getting dinner ready. You can even do it in your jammies! It’s pretty brilliant, actually!

This will be my 10th, YES, tenth, LOAD! I had heard about it for about a year before I jumped in, and I’m ever so glad I finally did just do it! Some LOADs have been more successful than others, but ultimately, I end up with more layouts than I started the month with, so it’s definitely a win in my book!

Playing with trends? Make them your own!

I’ve posted about my LOAD experiences several times, and you can find lots of insight here, here and here, where I’ve shared my top tips for an amazing LOAD experience, lots of my favorite layouts, why LOAD is a life changer and I’ve even shared my top-secret Crock-Pot Chili recipe that makes my family quite happy during LOAD!

So if I’ve written so much about LOAD already, what could I possible have to offer this go round without repeating myself? Loads! {Pun intended!} Instead of strategies or tips, I’d love to share a few things I didn’t know about LOAD, and that now, as I approach my 10th LOAD, am blessed with and look forward to sharing with you…

Prompts that make you scratch your head

Before participating in my first LOAD, I thought I’d just create layouts. Period. I knew I’d receive a daily prompt with some layout examples, and being fairly new to scrapbooking at the time, I thought it would be “use a green piece of paper, 5 brads, and 2 photos” but I was wrong. There’s so much more to LOAD than the month long challenge and a daily prompt.

I had no idea that the prompts would be so insightful. Some of the prompts made me immediately think of the page I wanted to create. Other times, the prompts challenged me to scrap about a topic that would’ve otherwise not made it onto my pages. I should probably say that pre-LOAD, I was mostly an event scrapper, with birthdays and Halloween monopolizing most pages. So making a page about my twin uncles, or my husband’s guitar wouldn’t have been top of mind. But through the awesome LOAD prompts, those pages happened! Curious what the prompts were those days? Little Girl Crush made me scrap about my super cool and handsome uncles, and the Five-Senses: Hearing prompt led me down the path of creating a layout about the 12-string guitar I gifted my husband years ago…way back to our pre-kids days when we had money for our own toys 😉

Inspiration from Prompts, People, Pages

There is no shortage of inspiration during LOAD! Not only are the prompts fantastic, but the pages you see in the private gallery created using the same prompts you’ve received, is amazing! It’s truly inspiring to see the beautiful pages, read heartwarming / real / funny / poignant  journaling, and find that someone may have processed and interpreted the prompt so differently from you, that you’re inspired to create another page using the same prompt! There are usually over 5000+ pages created during LOAD – talk about endless inspiration!

Friendships, the real kind, not just surface stuff

So during LOAD, not only are we creating pages, but we’re seeing everyone else’s pages in our private gallery. And what’s usually on our pages? Our lives! Our loved ones! Our past! Our present! Our dreams! It’s beautiful to know so many of these women and their families through the layouts that have been shared. Marriages, babies, graduations, losses, deaths, family challenges… we’ve all shared so much on our layouts. Many of us have formed deep and meaningful friendships, and have even met in real life for retreats, shopping, coffee, classes, crafting, laughs and more! I really had no clue how close I would become with so many of these women. We come from all parts of the world, all different ages, shapes, colors and sizes! Our common thread of scrapbooking brought us together, but the friendships go so much deeper than sharing a love of paper! I’m forever thankful that I made the decision to try LOAD all those years ago!

All in all, I’m really thankful for LOAD and wish I would’ve known sooner, how amazing the community is, the support, the inspiration, the camaraderie, the friendships that are formed… they’ve made a huge impact on my crafty life path and many have left their inky fingerprints on my heart forever ❤

So are you ready to join us? You’ve gotta do it, at least once upon a time! Sign up here!

One of the sweetest LOADsters I had the pleasure to become friends with would always give us a countdown of how many sleeps were left before the next LOAD started… so as Alison would say… we have six more sleeps before all the fun starts! Join us! You really will not regret it. And who knows, you might just make some new crafty besties! We’re a friendly, fun and fabulous (if I do say so myself!) group of gals and there’s room at the crafting table for you to join us 🙂

Just Do It! (it’s not just for Nike)

BelleLiveOption

Taking classes, learning, growing, evolving… that is beyond important to my well being and personal fulfillment. I’ve loved education since I was a little girl. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I went a full year without taking a class of some sort! From getting my MBA to Certification in Photography, from “Cooking Your First Thanksgiving Dinner” to kick-boxing, from knife skills to scrapbooking, from the Perfect Cocktail Party to painting, and everything in-between, I love to learn. Seriously, I haven’t met many classes that I didn’t love and grow from!

And that streak continues with all the classes I’ve taken at CreativeLive! Have you caught any CL classes yet? They’re fantastic! Live broadcasts are free, but I’ve actually purchased access to several classes because the content is just that valuable! I’m gonna tell you about one class in particular… so keep reading!

Have you noticed some changes here at Clicky Chick Creates? I recently participated in CreativeLive’s “Build a Successful Creative Blog” class taught by the über spunky, smart, adorable, fun and knowledgable April Bowles-Olin of Blacksburg Belle. April’s class covered tons of great topics about creative blogging, not just goals and writing, but deeper discussions including finding your voice, utilizing social media, fostering relationships, taking daily steps (no matter how small) to get closer to your goals and so much more!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Seize the Sweetness Kinda Day!

The great thing about constantly taking classes is all the new information I’m exposed to and bits and pieces I put together along the way. The tragic part of taking so many classes is it’s way more fun to take the classes and less fun to actually do the work! But April’s class was so inspiring, and the community that transpired from the student chat during the class, combined to create a fantastic ball of energy! Some of the messages that came through, loud and clear, that I decided I had to take immediate action on included:

1. Get your face on your page!

Did you notice the left side bar changes? See me smiling at you?! Here I am again… Hi, sugar!

4. Make it easy to stay connected

How about the social media icons in the left sidebar? I’d love to connect with you!

youtube bloglovin flickr

5. Just DO IT!

Throughout the class, April gave us loads of information and knowledge on how to do what we need to do. Lots of info. A plethora. Books worth. Some of my favorite words of wisdom from April can summarize an easily digestible plan to move forward:

  • Take it one step at a time: determine what your priorities are so you can focus on one step at a time
  • Set B&W goals: accomplish those first, then move onto adding new goals
  • Don’t aim for perfection: if at the end of the day you can say “I did at least one thing today to get closer to my goal!” then you’re doing good! (Click to Tweet)

Sounds simple enough, right?! So just DO IT! I’m glad I’ve made the changes that I did, and yet there are still a ton more I’d like to make. I had plenty of roadblocks (um, excuses, reasons, whatever you want to call them) as to why some had not been done. For example:

  • I couldn’t send out from my MailChimp account until I had a PO Box (I’m just not comfortable sharing my home address with the public), so it took a while, but I finally made time to get to the Post Office.
  • I prefer my face behind the lens, not on my sidebar! But putting myself, my face in particular, gives Clicky Chick Creates a little more personality!

So what are you doing to move your blog forward? There are tons of tips and tricks in April’s class and on her blog, as well as tons of other resources all over the web.

I came across CreativeLive last year and rarely does a week go by that I haven’t checked out a classroom or two! My two favorite channels are “Photo & Video” as well as “Craft & Maker.” Both are perfect for my worlds, but they do have a other channels, so check them out regardless of what creative world you live in 🙂

If you landed on my page following the blog tour, you came to me from K9 Studio Photography (aren’t Kristina’s images fantastic?! I’m in love with her conceptual Doggy-Angels!) and now you’ll be headed to my sweet and amazing eco-crafting friend, Gina Zee. I’ve actually known Gina for years and have enjoyed watching her evolution as an artsy and eco-crafter – go tour her site, you won’t be disappointed!

Enjoy the rest of the hop! Lots of great blogging tips and take aways being shared via the “What #BelleLive Taught Me” blog tour! {Click to Tweet}

As always, thanks for stopping by. I know this post was a bit meatier than my usual pretty pictures and creative crafts, so thanks for sticking with me! Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day! And if you haven’t signed-up for the Clicky Chick Creates email list yet, whatcha waiting for?
