I’ve shared lots about my daughters, and I just have to share these shots from earlier in the year. I had an assignment due for my Practice class with Katrina Kennedy at Capture Your 365 (#CY365) The assignment was experimenting with custom temperature settings on your camera. Haven’t done it? Yeah, I hadn’t either! Definitely explore that capability. I am still in awe!
{Side Note: The Practice! Class runs for a full year and we still have 4 months left. If you’re looking to make practicing your photography a priority and are looking for a class, this is IT! There’s even a mid-year discount on it. Check it out!}
After a very busy few weeks, I had to squeeze in my Practice assignment at the very last minute. Luckily, we were headed to the Girl Scout store in order to get my 7 yr olds Brownie uniform in preparation of her bridging from Daisy to Brownie, and were conveniently down the street from Balboa Park.
During the class webinar and live critique, a fellow photographer (and friend) commented on the barn doors in the shot. They are quite lovely, aren’t they?! But truth be told, they’re actually the doors to the carousel in the park. The carousel doesn’t run often, I think it’s only on weekends, but I’m not sure if the summer schedule is any different? But I digress… back to me and my photos and offering you some tips 🙂
The reason I mention the doors is because over the years, I think I’ve honed my skill of noticing backgrounds, textures and locations to use for photography. Do you take the time to notice what’s right in front of you and easily accessible? So much beauty that isn’t necessarily seen as beautiful from the get-go. {Click on the photos below to link to the original blog posts featuring that specific image and more!}
The pink background in this self portrait? My daughter’s Cinderella blanket!
The awesome rock wall? A BBQ pit at a local park!
The gorgeous Moroccan lanterns? Hanging high overhead on the ceiling in a local restaurant.

The Uncommon Beauty in everyday sights? Our Mexican Palm tree.
What have you noticed and photographed that wasn’t so obvious at first? Take a look around your part of the world today. I bet you can come up with at least 5 things that are interesting to photograph. Be it textural, colorful, foreign or just plain old pretty! Share what you discover – I really want to hear and see!
As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day! And if you haven’t signed-up for the Clicky Chick Creates email list yet, whatcha waiting for? You’ll get “7 Must-Have Kid Birthday Photos” printable photo tips as my thank you 🙂
Live creatively!
