Make It Monday // Alice-esque Cake Card {Top Dog Dies}

I love birthdays. And cake. And making cards. And things that are a little off and make you take a second look. Yup, um-hmm.

MakeItMondayCircle-RED-CORAL-MAYWelcome to another MaKe iT MoNdAY! I’m so excited to share another card with you today, one totally inspired by the new Top Dog Dies, the Make a Cake die set to be exact!

When I saw the adorable die, I loved that it had a banner to go with it! Talk about being on trend! Along with the banner, the die includes 2 skewers for perfect placement of the banner atop the cake!

I took two layers of the cake and ended up making the top layer just a touch smaller. I cut the cake layer out the first time, then adjusted the die over, exposing about an inch of the cake. I love how cute it turned out! I was feeling inspired by Alice in Wonderland, so I wanted the cake to feel a little topsy-turvy and the colors to reflect the eclecticism.

Check out the flames on the candles – perfection!

So many times I try to squeeze too much into my day and end up feeling like the White Rabbit in Alice… “I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date!” What’s your favorite Alice character?

MakeItMondayCircle-RED-CORAL-MAYBe sure to continue the Make It Monday circle and head on over and maybe have a cup of coffee with Alison at Day Designs. She’s showing how she used a new card kit until it was all gone. Good to the last drop isn’t just for coffee anymore!

As always, thanks for stopping by my little colorful spot on the web! Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!

Threshold // Make Believe {Photo Challenge}

While studying photography, one of the more technical classes I took was learning Photoshop. Although it was technical, it was quite creative as we were challenged to create composites — taking multiple photos and creating one seamless image.

Thinking of the Daily Post weekly photo challenge: threshold reminded me of the imaginary and creative worlds that kids are so easily able to enter into everyday of their young lives. My girls love princesses and dress up and all things Disney (um, heard of a little flick called Frozen? Yes, they sing Let it Go or Do You Want to Build a Snowman or In Summer every.single.day!!)  Similar to Frozen’s Elsa, my 7-yr old is convinced she has “cold powers” – see what I mean?!

I love this stage of their lives. I don’t remember ever “losing” that spirit and imaginative stage, but clearly at one point most of us do. I hope my girls always use those fantastic imaginations of theirs and dream BIG!

As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!

Live creatively!
