Contrasts // Handful of Sunshine {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handful of sunshine, silhouette

Meeting up with photog-friends for a walk and some drinks earlier this week gave me the opportunity to capture this silhouette of my lovely friend Jennifer. She is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out!

We were playing around with some shots of each other with the sun on our faces, when I noticed the fabulous opportunity for a silhouette. Jen was a great sport cupping her hand to catch that handful of sunshine! There were lots of buildings and distractions, so it took a little work to get the right angle. I think she had a double arm workout that day… thanks Jen!

Practicing Shutter Speed

This month’s lesson in Practice at Capture Your 365 is focusing on Shutter Speed. I knew I wanted to do a long exposure shot on the bridge at Balboa Park overlooking the 163, and it was perfect that it fit in with the daily prompt: Curve at CY365 that same day as well! Maybe next time I can head down to Gaslamp District (downtown San Diego – the skyline in the photo) and do some long exposure shots there – that’ll be fun!

Practice covers one subject, four ways each month for 12 months. We’re only two months in and the lessons are fabulous – you can still catch up! Check out the info here if you’re interested in learning more – I’m loving the lessons and the different ways of getting creative with my craft!

UPDATE: Jeroen and Cardinal offered some good constructive criticism regarding the photo being a bit dark. I was intentionally focusing on the trailing lights and loved the color balance there. But their opinions as fellow respected bloggers and photographers made me take another look at my image. I played with the increasing the exposure a lot more in certain areas than others (I didn’t want the red trailing lights to become too pink), but here’s the updated image. Thanks Jeroen and Cardinal for offering your insights!
