Contrasts // Handful of Sunshine {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handful of sunshine, silhouette

Meeting up with photog-friends for a walk and some drinks earlier this week gave me the opportunity to capture this silhouette of my lovely friend Jennifer. She is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out!

We were playing around with some shots of each other with the sun on our faces, when I noticed the fabulous opportunity for a silhouette. Jen was a great sport cupping her hand to catch that handful of sunshine! There were lots of buildings and distractions, so it took a little work to get the right angle. I think she had a double arm workout that day… thanks Jen!

As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day! And if you haven’t signed-up for the Clicky Chick Creates email list yet, whatcha waiting for? Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // little girl running into ocean, arms stretched out, excitement, Ralph Waldo Emerson quote "Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air."

Between telling my 7-yr old to only dip her toes in and the allure of the great beautiful Pacific Ocean, my girls decided getting totally wet in their summer dresses and jean jackets was totally appropriate!

Really, is there more to say?! Hope you’re ready to kick-off summer (officially, tomorrow, June 21st, also my birthday – woot-woot!) with as much exuberance as my 7-yr old in this shot! Also, I love, love, love this quote, so I had to pair it with this silhouette. Besides, my daughter defines the “free” and “wild” parts of childhood, this image and quote just really encapsulates her!

Sunny & Colorful Layout using Stencils and Gelatos {Feeling Crafty}

Check out this layout I created highlighting a recent Crazy Hair Day photo! Any guesses who inspired the look?! My girls have such colorful personalities, I wanted to make the page bright and bold to match them… and of course getting creative time is always a pleasure : )

Do you like creating your own backgrounds for your layouts? I definitely do! Usually I use templates or stencils (like these from The Crafter’s Workshop) with Dylusions Spray Inks or Tim Holtz Distress Inks or Tim Holtz Distress Stains to create my own papers like here, here and here. For this layout I went with stencils and gelatos. It was a first for me to use gelatos on a layout. What do you think?

I actually filmed my process and created this video showing how it all came together… Enjoy!

My baby girl LOVES going to the park and swinging, swinging, swinging! She always has and I love how cute she looks in the big kid swing!

Last summer I had fun creating the text clouds in the photo and posted about it here after learning how to from my amazing and talented friend Melissa over at Digital Scrapbooking HQ. She’s brilliant! (and witty, and a digi-guru, and just overall adorable!)

This is yet another LOAD (layout-a-day) page I created this past February. The prompt was to use a photograph we had already scrapbooked, but to use it to tell a different story. Perfect opportunity for me to use the photo with the text clouds…

You Make Me Happy Card {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // You Make Me Happy when skies are grey card, Heidi Swapp sunshine stencil, KaiserCraft stamp, My Mind's Eye paper, embossing, balloons,

Seriously, I can’t believe how long it’s been since I posted a craft project! So I decided to change that this weekend by playing along with the Fusion Card Challenge #2. Have you checked it out yet? Such a fantastic place to find inspiration… you can use the sketch or the photo or both to inspire your creation! Awesome fun!!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // You Make Me Happy when skies are grey card, Heidi Swapp sunshine stencil, KaiserCraft stamp, My Mind's Eye paper, embossing, balloons, Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // You Make Me Happy when skies are grey card, Heidi Swapp sunshine stencil, KaiserCraft stamp, My Mind's Eye paper, embossing, balloons,

To create this card, I started with creating the sunburst on the card base using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Squeezed Lemonade with a foam / ink blending tool and Heidi Swapp’s Sunshine Stencil. Next, I grabbed a sheet of gray patterned paper from a 6×6 My Mind’s Eye “Breeze” paper pad. I trimmed the paper and punched borders using Fiskars “Bubble” Border Punch. I then grabbed a black piece of cardstock and white embossed the “you make me happy when skies are grey” sentiment from KaiserCraft’s Texture Stamp You. Using the Parties design card for Slice, I cut out balloons, edged them in Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot, then glued them down, forming a somewhat random, somewhat organized cluster of balloons! Then with the Signo Broad White Pen, I added faux stitching around the card and added “strings” and a bow. Ta-da!

What would you create with the photo and / or sketch below? Are you playing along with the Fusion Challenge? The color palettes and sketches are super inspiring!
