We just finished tackling the most challenging exercises I’ve been faced with in the Practice class with Katrina Kennedy at CY365… Street Photography! I love photographing at farmer’s market’s and street fairs, so I thought the four exercises in Street Photography would be a breeze. Boy, was I wrong!

As challenging (in a good way, of course!) as the assignments were, I definitely enjoyed pushing beyond my comfort zone. I really hoped to nail the street portrait and was channeling my “Humans of New York” inspiration as much as possible, but let’s just say I’ll leave that niche of photography to the street photography pros like Brandon Stanton ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you enjoy street photography? Any tips you’d like to share that help you when capturing a good street portrait? I learned lots and would like to share my takeaway from the pedi-cab shots…

Photo Tip: Engage with your subject – chat with them, give a little direction and be grateful for their assistance! Even if there’s a language barrier, use body language and your hands to drive the communication! {click to tweet!}
