Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Make it Monday blog circle in greenWelcome to another Make It Monday circle! I’m so excited to share these cupcake toppers I recently made for the Father-Daughter Dance “Mustache and Tiara Ball II” at my girls’ school! It’s an annual event and I LOVE that my girls and hubby enjoy their big night out, getting dressed up, going out to a nice dinner, and overall having a ball!

My baby is in kindergarten this year, so she was thrilled to get to go too. My 2nd grader wasn’t thrilled to have sis in tow as it’s she had 3 years of going solo with her Daddy! Ah, sister drama! But I digress… I had a blast making these cupcake toppers for the big night. Our school is definitely full of loving parents who volunteer their time and talents (along with their treasures!) to the school, and these toppers were going to be paired with yummy cupcakes prepared by other mommies!

Did you notice the “II” after “Mustache and Tiara Ball” earlier? Yes, this was the second year we’ve had this theme, so I actually made similar toppers last year. And I realized, I’m probably not alone needing toppers for this theme! So, what’s a girl to do? I added these printables to my Etsy shop! All that’s need after printing up the sheets, is a few different punches to create these perfectly adorable toppers!

You can purchase the instant downloads from my Etsy shop – the MUSTACHES alone, the TIARAS alone, or a COMBO of both mustaches and tiaras!

They were super easy to make with the printable, a handful of punches and of course glitter! Once they were punched and glued onto bamboo forks and lollipop sticks, I added a touch of glitter to really make them look like a million bucks! I ended up volunteering the night of the party taking candid photos, and I was so happy to see lots of little girls who had devoured their cupcake treats, but were still holding onto the toppers! So cute!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Make it Monday blog circle in greenI hope you’re inspired to make some toppers for your next party! 10 on 10 – July // Street Photography

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // street signs, red, stop, blue sky, Little Italy

We just finished tackling the most challenging exercises I’ve been faced with in the Practice class with Katrina Kennedy at CY365… Street Photography! I love photographing at farmer’s market’s and street fairs, so I thought the four exercises in Street Photography would be a breeze. Boy, was I wrong!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // street signs, red, pedestrians, one-way, do not enter, Little Italy Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // street signs, words on pavement, confusing, arrows, Little Italy

As challenging (in a good way, of course!) as the assignments were, I definitely enjoyed pushing beyond my comfort zone. I really hoped to nail the street portrait and was channeling my “Humans of New York” inspiration as much as possible, but let’s just say I’ll leave that niche of photography to the street photography pros like Brandon Stanton 🙂

Do you enjoy street photography? Any tips you’d like to share that help you when capturing a good street portrait? I learned lots and would like to share my takeaway from the pedi-cab shots…

Pinterest Inspiration in Action {Feeling Crafty}

ClickyChickCreates.com // graduation cap candies with step-by-step instructions

Back in high school (waaaaay back in the late ’80’s) I would clip magazine ads I liked and glue them to a poster board. It may have been the fashion, or the hair, or the destination, or the words. Whatever it was, it was inspiration. In the ’90’s, I had a notebook I would tape magazine or catalog clippings into. I included wedding ideas, travel destinations, home design and decor. Again, inspiration. Today we have the internet, and more specifically, Pinterest to corral all those beautiful finds!

Do you use Pinterest? I love checking it out for inspiration and ideas in a variety of areas: crafts, recipes, party planning, photography posing, photo angles / POV, clothing ideas for clients, and loads more!

I’ve been wanting to share these ideas with you since last summer… crazy how fast time flies! Over the last year, I used these inspirational finds to create goodies: 1. treats for my kindergartener’s last day of school and for my pre-schoolers graduation, too; 2. invites for my sister’s baby shower; and 3. a card for my sister’s baby shower. I love how all three projects came out… what do you think? Take a look below and let me know in the comments!

I was a bit short on time (as usual!) so the graduation caps I made last year are a far cry from what they could’ve been, but the kids gobbled them up and loved them nonetheless. The caps made this year had a little more TLC as I allocated a little more time to make them.

Graduation Cap Candies

They’re pretty simple to make. You’ll need:

  • Lollipop sticks
  • Reese’s PB cups miniatures
  • Ghiradelli chocolate squares
  • M&Ms or Skittles
  • Twizzlers or sour string type candy for tassel
  • Wilton melting chocolates
  • Florist foam (Michael’s or Vons florist sells them too!)
  1. Cool Reeses’s cups in fridge before removing wrapping (cleaner/less chocolate sticking to wrapper)
  2. Let cups come to room temp then place lollipop sticks in center of top/wider section
  3. Melt Wilton chocolates.
  4. Add dab of melted chocolate to center of flat side of Ghiradelli chocolate square, add tassel and M&M
  5. Add thin layer of melted chocolate on bottom of PB cup and stick to Ghiradelli square.
  6. Graduation caps are ready for festivities!

I get florist foam at Vons, size it to a glass bread pan, cover foam with colorful gift tissue and stick it in the pan. Voila!

Baby Shower Invites and Decor

The invites were so much fun to make last summer. I can’t believe my nephew is turning one so soon! He is such a sweetheart and absolute cutie pie! We went with the ever trendy and popular mustaches for the theme. Cute, right?!

Winter CHA – Product Samples {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Birth announcement, thank you card, stroller, pram, buggy, Custom Scrapbook Stuff, embossedI was asked by my friend and local-business (Custom Scrapbook Stuff) owner if I would be interested in making samples with her custom paper for the upcoming CHA show. Of course I said yes! I do love being crafty after all!

Her paper line is completely customizable for your needs: names, dates, teams and colors are completely customizable based on your needs. When I saw the wedding papers, I thought it would be fun to use a photo from a wedding I photographed in 2012 and really highlight the paper itself. The minute I saw the birth announcement papers, I knew I wanted to make thank you cards (above), as well as a layout (below) featuring my adorable nephew!

Feeling Crafty: The Legend of Anna Meatball (LOAD)

Image

One of the things I love best about paper crafting, is the freedom to be creative. There’s so much in our daily lives that becomes routine – we have errands to run, groceries to buy, mouths to feed, rooms to clean, laundry to wash, drop-offs, pick-ups, extracurricular activities to get to, and on and on.

But when I craft, especially during Layout a Day (LOAD), I get to focus on photos I want to highlight, a story I want to share, and products I want to use! The cute little Bella Blvd mustache paper I have on this layout and card was screaming to be used with photos from my sister’s baby gender revealing party. There were mustaches for those who thought she was having a boy, pink lips for those who thought she was having a girl. Perfect for this paper!

Image

Usually when I scrapbook, I start with photos or story as my launching pad. Sometimes (rarely) I start with the product I want to use. During LOAD, a prompt will lead my mind. In this case, it all came together serendipitously! Today’s prompt was “Who?” and who else to scrapbook about than our newest (coming) family member! Working with the browns and pinks, I wanted it to be playful, but refined; trendy, but timeless; layered, but not overwhelming. The patterned papers add lots of energy, so I decided to make the journaling hidden on the tag behind the pink masked hearts.

Image

One of my favorite new stamps is the distressed chevron by The Sweet Stamp Shop. I made this great little Polaroid-ish frame for a 3×3 photo. Using VersaMark watermark stamp on 4×6 piece of Ranger’s glossy paper, I stamped the chevron stamp, added clear embossing powder and heat set the embossing powder. Then using a blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Picked Raspberry, I added my color. Image

I always end up with bits and pieces of scraps that usually end up in my scrap bins. But this time I decided I wanted to use those pieces and not forget about them. So staying with the same color family and overall look with the banners, I decided to make a birthday card. I also decided to add a little banner made with washi tape and bakers twine. Love how it came out!

Thanks for stopping by and have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!
