Make It Monday // Pumpkin Inspiration {Top Dog Dies}

MakeItMondayCircle-FALL2015Welcome to another Make It Monday! Did you think I forgot?! Ha, no forgetting, just good-crazy-busy with photo shoots, photo edits and of course sticker making for my Etsy shop 😀

Just a quick post sharing a cute idea for using the Top Dog Dies Pumpkin Die Set. You know the lunch box love notes I’ve shared here and here? Well, I can’t help but make some new ones using the adorable pumpkin dies and one of our all time favorite movie quotes “Have courage and be kind” – can you place the movie? Huh, huh, huh?

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Pumpkin love notes, have courage and be kind, quote, inspirational, Cinderella, Top Dog Dies

From the modern Cinderella movie! The story is fairly consistent with the original Disney animated version, but It’s beautifully real – the way it’s filmed and the way the story unfolds, just beautiful! If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch it! And really, you don’t even have to have little princesses in the house, or be a princess or queen yourself! Ha! It’s that good!

I used the die set to cut the pumpkins from glitter paper and double sided paper for the scalloped circles. Then I glued the pumpkins onto the patterned paper, centering the pumpkin as much as possible. Hand writing adds a nice touch to the custom pieces, then laminated and scallop die cut out the larger piece, leaving a little edging. Easy peasy! Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Pumpkin love notes, have courage and be kind, quote, inspirational, Cinderella, Top Dog Dies

Hula Hoop Girl {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Hula Hoop Girl scrapbook layout
Those moments that make you laugh for days or weeks, maybe even months? The kind of laugh that makes your face hurt, spit your drink out and pee your pants because it’s so funny?! Those are the moments we never want to forget! They are priceless! But sadly, they do get forgotten over time. New memories, to do’s, life in general keeps moving along and pushing those memories farther out. That’s really, genuinely, sincerely one of the BEST parts of being a memory keeper. <– It’s right there in the name… I’m KEEPing those memories.

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Hula Hoop Girl scrapbook layout

Like this one of my baby girl! It was my big girl’s end-of-year kindergarten party and I was able to bring my then just-turned-3 year old for the fun as well. There were lawn races and water activities, and one of the funniest was watching a bunch of 5- and 6-year olds hula hoop. Oh, the coordination (or lack thereof) was hilarious! Then throw my 3-yr old into the mix… yup, pee my pants kinda funny! She would hold the hoop out around her so she was perfectly in the middle, but instead of swooshing it around her body to get the motion going on the hoop, she would just let go of the hoop, it would drop to the ground, and she would stand in the center and just shake-shake-shake her booty! It was side-splitting funny! Even as I type this, I’m smiling ear-to-ear remembering her shenanigans!

So I will continue to share my memories with my family by creating scrapbooking layouts. I know my memories will fade over time, but having these pages to look back on warms my heart and brings a smile to my face. I hope my girls cherish these documented memories as they get older and forget their own experiences as well!

Some scrappy tips on the layout itself:

  • I love adding layers of paper, but I’m also a bit of a saver cheap, so if there’s a big portion of the paper that’s being covered by other paper? I’ll cut in 1/2″ from each edge so I can use that portion on another project!
  • I have more baker’s twine than I know what to do with! I’ve used this color combo on Christmas layouts, but it worked great with this color combo too!
  • Fussy cutting and layering using similar colors, then distressing all the edges ties it all together to look even more cohesive!
  • Circle cutters worked wonderfully to tie in the Hula Hoop look and feel! Think about the subject in your layouts too and figure out how to incorporate that into your design!

Pinterest Inspiration in Action {Feeling Crafty}

ClickyChickCreates.com // graduation cap candies with step-by-step instructions

Back in high school (waaaaay back in the late ’80’s) I would clip magazine ads I liked and glue them to a poster board. It may have been the fashion, or the hair, or the destination, or the words. Whatever it was, it was inspiration. In the ’90’s, I had a notebook I would tape magazine or catalog clippings into. I included wedding ideas, travel destinations, home design and decor. Again, inspiration. Today we have the internet, and more specifically, Pinterest to corral all those beautiful finds!

Do you use Pinterest? I love checking it out for inspiration and ideas in a variety of areas: crafts, recipes, party planning, photography posing, photo angles / POV, clothing ideas for clients, and loads more!

I’ve been wanting to share these ideas with you since last summer… crazy how fast time flies! Over the last year, I used these inspirational finds to create goodies: 1. treats for my kindergartener’s last day of school and for my pre-schoolers graduation, too; 2. invites for my sister’s baby shower; and 3. a card for my sister’s baby shower. I love how all three projects came out… what do you think? Take a look below and let me know in the comments!

I was a bit short on time (as usual!) so the graduation caps I made last year are a far cry from what they could’ve been, but the kids gobbled them up and loved them nonetheless. The caps made this year had a little more TLC as I allocated a little more time to make them.

Graduation Cap Candies

They’re pretty simple to make. You’ll need:

  • Lollipop sticks
  • Reese’s PB cups miniatures
  • Ghiradelli chocolate squares
  • M&Ms or Skittles
  • Twizzlers or sour string type candy for tassel
  • Wilton melting chocolates
  • Florist foam (Michael’s or Vons florist sells them too!)
  1. Cool Reeses’s cups in fridge before removing wrapping (cleaner/less chocolate sticking to wrapper)
  2. Let cups come to room temp then place lollipop sticks in center of top/wider section
  3. Melt Wilton chocolates.
  4. Add dab of melted chocolate to center of flat side of Ghiradelli chocolate square, add tassel and M&M
  5. Add thin layer of melted chocolate on bottom of PB cup and stick to Ghiradelli square.
  6. Graduation caps are ready for festivities!

I get florist foam at Vons, size it to a glass bread pan, cover foam with colorful gift tissue and stick it in the pan. Voila!

Baby Shower Invites and Decor

The invites were so much fun to make last summer. I can’t believe my nephew is turning one so soon! He is such a sweetheart and absolute cutie pie! We went with the ever trendy and popular mustaches for the theme. Cute, right?!

10 on 10 – April // Engagement at Mercado with Rey & Gina

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // engagement couple session, Rosarito, Mexico, mercado, market, colorful, turquoise, blue, gray, wood, wheel, rustic, arches, archways, kiss

I had the amazing privilege to photograph this gorgeous couple for their engagement session, not once, but twice! We actually broke their session into two sessions – you might remember this post from last week of our sunset beach session? For our first session, we actually headed to a Mercado to get some local flavor and colors in Baja California.

And did I mention the best part? Those cutie pie-love birds are my family! My handsome and smart brother Rey and his adorable and creative fiancé Gina are getting married towards the end of the year, and we are so excited for the big event!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // engagement couple session, Rosarito, Mexico, mercado, market, colorful, turquoise, blue, gray, wood, wheel, rustic, arches, archways, kiss, sombreros

Gina and I have been pinning ideas and texting back and forth with inspiration for this session, and when she went exploring her new neighborhood, found these adorable areas for us to incorporate during our session. We did a morning session at the local Mercado and had a blast! There were so many amazing little spots we found during our outing, we could’ve went on photographing for days!! The colors, the textures, the vibe – we loved it all!
