Containers // Beauty Within {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // // hanging planterWhile in college, I fell in love with all the containers and organization at Bed, Bath and Beyond, as well as The Container Store. But perusing my photos, I didn’t find the kinds of photos I was envisioning sharing. So many times we view containers just as a holding place – an item between us and what we really, really want… the contents within those containers!

But as I perused my archives, searching for photos for this week’s theme for The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Containers, I realized many of the containers I’m drawn to are glass, or have a clear aspect so we may see the contents, which got me thinking about the glass in itself – the different patterns and shapes. It’s really beautiful when you think about it!

What types of containers are you drawn to? Clear? Opaque? Plastic? Glass? Ceramic? Wood? Metal? Colorful? Monotone? Me? I like it all! No container discrimination here! But it looks like I like to photograph the glass ones the most : )

Photo Tip: When photographing a repetitive subject, like jars lined up, get it at eye level and from a side angle to get visual interest. {Click to Tweet}

While in college, I always hoped to win a fabulous closet make-over from one of the organizing stores. Not to replace the contents of my closet (I was voted best-dressed in high school, after all!), just the organization part! Never won it, but I’m definitely a container junkie and my craft room is full of containers holding all my crafty goodness.

I’m in the middle of reorganizing my craft room, but maybe if that’s done before the week is up, I’ll put up another “containers” post! I just finished a scrappy-hour with some scrappy-friends on Spreecast and got a tour of my friend Alice’s studio – from Scrapbook Wonderland – cute name, huh?! Anyway, her studio is amazing and reinvigorated my desire to reorganize my craft room, so wish me luck!

Birthdays are a big deal around here, celebrating from the moment our girls wake up and usually going for days, even into the weekend! One of our family traditions is filling their room with balloons over night so they wake up with squeals of delight over the sea of birthday balloons! I started the tradition with our first born (now a whopping 7 yrs old) — one of my favorite childhood memories was when I was about ten, my mom put a ton of pink balloons in my room on Valentine’s. I remember feeling so special and loved.

The Daily Post weekly photo challenge: Threshold got me thinking how every birthday or milestone brings new changes, challenges, and developments. My four-year old is turning five next month, so what better time to showcase some of my favorite photos from her birthday morning last year! The anticipation of blowing out the candles and getting to the sweet treat. The excitement of opening presents. The thrill of waking up to a room filled with balloons. It’s all priceless!

Foreshadow // Birthday Wishes {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // // pink purple white Hello Kitty birthday cake with 6 cross starburst candle lightsThe sweet smile, the candlelight glow on her face, the starburst from the flickering candles… all foreshadowing the impending reality of a happy birthday song, birthday wishes, and delicious birthday cake! And let’s not forget the presents, of course! I just adore the excitement and anticipation in Super-D’s face! She’s my daughters BFF and so stinkin’ cute!

We were celebrating her 4th birthday and I had just bought my first nifty-fifty 1.8 lens. LOVED that lens! Threw on a 6-point star cross filter and voila, fun capture! The girls will turn 7 this fall and I think we have spent every birthday together! I hope they do for their whole lives!! Is it silly that I envision them as little old ladies having a birthday tea party?!
