Certainly a fantastic upcycling use of wine corks! Spotted these beauties in Spanish Village at Balboa Park and can’t wait to recycle my lovely memories into beautiful Christmas holiday creations and decorations!

The Daily Post weekly photo challenge “Yellow” reminded me I had not shared these yet. Hope you enjoy and get inspired to do something with those wine corks you might have been saving for the perfect project!

Containers // Beauty Within {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // hanging planterWhile in college, I fell in love with all the containers and organization at Bed, Bath and Beyond, as well as The Container Store. But perusing my photos, I didn’t find the kinds of photos I was envisioning sharing. So many times we view containers just as a holding place – an item between us and what we really, really want… the contents within those containers!

But as I perused my archives, searching for photos for this week’s theme for The Daily Post Photo Challenge: Containers, I realized many of the containers I’m drawn to are glass, or have a clear aspect so we may see the contents, which got me thinking about the glass in itself – the different patterns and shapes. It’s really beautiful when you think about it!

What types of containers are you drawn to? Clear? Opaque? Plastic? Glass? Ceramic? Wood? Metal? Colorful? Monotone? Me? I like it all! No container discrimination here! But it looks like I like to photograph the glass ones the most : )

Photo Tip: When photographing a repetitive subject, like jars lined up, get it at eye level and from a side angle to get visual interest. {Click to Tweet}

While in college, I always hoped to win a fabulous closet make-over from one of the organizing stores. Not to replace the contents of my closet (I was voted best-dressed in high school, after all!), just the organization part! Never won it, but I’m definitely a container junkie and my craft room is full of containers holding all my crafty goodness.

I’m in the middle of reorganizing my craft room, but maybe if that’s done before the week is up, I’ll put up another “containers” post! I just finished a scrappy-hour with some scrappy-friends on Spreecast and got a tour of my friend Alice’s studio – from Scrapbook Wonderland – cute name, huh?! Anyway, her studio is amazing and reinvigorated my desire to reorganize my craft room, so wish me luck!

Dream // POV {Photo Challenge}

2013-09-07_0553_POV

The prompt this week at The Daily Post is “Unusual POV” and I decided to have a little fun with this shot. My girls and I were snacking on some grapes and one of my daughters was having grape juice. It made me think of “grown-up grape juice” and I couldn’t help but wonder if all grapes aspire to become wine? : )

I knew I wanted a really dreamy background for the shot, so I decided to use my Canon 50mm f/1.4. I don’t pull this lens out often enough! What’s your favorite lens to use for dreamy, creamy, bokeh-filled backgrounds?

One Shot, Two Ways // Winery {Photo Challenge}

While in the South of France earlier this year, my girlfriends and I really wanted to go wine tasting, especially since we didn’t get the chance to go on a champagne tour while in Paris due to snow. Little did we know, most of the wineries have closed operation and sold their properties for hefty sums. So, we hired a private guide while in Nice and asked her to show us the sights. Our guide and driver Catherine Coppex was fantastic and showed us so much more than we could have done on our own – Monaco, Monte Carlo, Eze Village, St. Paul, a perfumerie, and so much more. She also found one of the last family wineries still in business and arranged for us to visit and have a private tasting. It was beyond wonderful!

And seeing that this weeks theme at the Daily Post is “One Shot, Two Ways” I decided to pull these shots from our visit to the winery. I believe the french wine maker said this was one of the old Roman ways of making wine, bottling in these vessels and leaving outdoors {rain, snow or shine} for three to nine months, depending on varietal.

The challenge set by the amazing and friendly photographer Jeff Sinon is to hone your eye to get the best shot – landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) – of the same scene or subject. Be sure to check out more inspiration and different takes on the theme over at The Daily Post! Now go shoot!
