Twinkle // Bokeh Snow Globes {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // // Bokeh and twinkle filled snow globes, star bokeh, ChristmasThe magic of the season is having taking notice of the small things and being grateful. My girls are still young and continue to love snow globes, with a beautiful twinkle in their eyes. How could they not when their little faces are in those adorable snow globes?!

Using a handmade filter to create the star shaped bokeh made this project extra fun! I used the bokeh tips my amazing friend Katrina Kennedy shared over at Capture Your 365 to learn how to make it. Using a star shaped paper punch gave me the perfect star!

Masterpiece // Eiffel Tower {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // // Eiffel Tower, Paris, France framed by branches at night with lights and blue purple sky

When I read “Masterpiece” as the photo challenge over at the Daily Post, my mind was flooded with visions of monuments, architecture, art, my daughters, food, landscapes, sunsets, and on and on. I finally decided on this evening shot of the Eiffel Tower, one of my favorites from my trip earlier this year. Not only do I love the colors and light in this shot, but I love how the trees, specifically the branches, are framing the tower, guiding our eyes through the shot.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Up – Moroccan Lanterns

2013-04-13_6231_highresThere’s a great restaurant, The Glass Door, that my husband and I have been to a few times in San Diego’s Little Italy. We’ve been there for brunch, so maybe that’s why I never noticed these hanging lanterns until our most recent trip! We popped in our first evening after checking in to our hotel, and I was mesmerized by the beauty of the lanterns. When I asked the bartender if they were new, he said they were the only original fixtures in the restaurant. I haven’t been able to find any history, but they’re gorgeous nonetheless!

The manager, Shervin, was kind enough to let me take these images. It was after a long day of photographing an anniversary party, but I couldn’t resist spending a few minutes to grab these shots. I loved all the colors, shapes and clusters. It always amazes me when I finally notice something that’s gone unnoticed, right under my nose, or in this case, right over my head! I guess I’ve been too busy enjoying the view of Little Italy and the San Diego marina, as well as the bottomless mimosas. Yum!
