The holidays are such a great time for families to come together from near and far to enjoy time together. But incorporating a fabulous vacation for that get together, in particular traveling to a beautiful destination like San Diego? Now that’s a way to vacation AND bond with loved ones!

I was blessed to be contacted by J, the wonderful matriarch of this lovely family for a photo session while she and her family vacationed in San Diego! We arranged for a beach photo session with the hopes of beautiful, picture-perfect San Diego weather. Mother Nature had other plans! It was really cold, incredibly windy and overcast. It even sprinkled a bit during our session! Luckily bright overcast skies work well for photography as it’s God’s gift of a natural diffuser, and for that I am thankful. But the gusty winds and drizzle? That we could’ve done without! Luckily, the family were all troopers and we captured some lovely images!

I was honored to be trusted to capturing these memories of their family during their visit to La Jolla! I loved our photo session and hope J and her family did as well!

As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day! Make sure not to miss any future posts by signing up for the Clicky Chick Creates email list here! You’ll get a great little freebie download as my thank you!

Multi Generation M Family {Sneak Peek}

Capturing extended families together brings me so much joy!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Multi-generation family photo session at Balboa Park, San Diego, CAWhen you think about how America was founded, it was individuals and families leaving their loved ones behind to bravely travel, plant themselves in foreign land, and grow roots. So although it’s been happening for as long as time, I know it’s hard to see our loved ones move away, whether it’s out of the neighborhood, out of state or to a foreign country. Nowadays, so many families have loved ones scattered across the country, or even across the globe. And that’s especially when I love being a photographer, and being asked to capture family portraits while all the loved ones are in one spot!

I was ecstatic when the M family contacted me for a multi-generation family photo session. The love, joy and camaraderie between all the family was lovely to see! We did get lucky with the San Diego sunshine, but boy-oh-boy was it cold that day! I know we can’t really complain, but really, for San Diego? It was freezing cold! The entire family were troopers and we kept trucking along with jackets and hugs for warming up between shots!

I loved the session and hope the M family did as well! Happy New Year!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Wall of Crosses, Villa, RosaritoRemember the post I shared last week about my brother’s wedding? Well, the villa we stayed at had this wonderful wall of Crosses that I loved and grabbed this shot. I meant to include it in my post, but forgot to. Lucky for me, this weeks Daily Post weekly photo challenge: Angular made me think of it 🙂

Refraction // Rainbow Glass {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // refraction, glass, rainbow, paints, colors, colorfulWhen I read the prompt “Refraction” over at the Daily Post, my initial response was “huh?” and I quickly had to google it! Do you know what it means? Wikipedia to the rescue with an explanation. I’m educated, and continue to love to learn, so getting stumped by a word is sometimes a nice surprise!

I loved the water droplet images that I saw, but don’t have any of those shots in my archives. And I don’t have a macro lens (yet!) so I couldn’t just whip one up, although it is on my wish list (feel free to help a girl out and contribute towards it here!) 🙂

I remembered the image I had in my archives of a cake stand and paints in the background, but I wasn’t totally feeling it. So, I decided to do the next best thing to the water droplet images and use jars and glasses of water to distort a background. This isn’t mind blowing creatively, but it was fun to squeeze in a little photo fun in the middle of a crazy busy day! My favorite part is the pinwheel-ish look and yellow “button” in one of the glasses of water! Pretty cool, huh?!

I have to admit that being able to quickly whip up an idea and stage a photo like this has come from having photography be top of mind on a daily basis. How’s that? Definitely a big influence is being part of Katrina Kennedy’s Capture Your 365 community. Have you checked it out yet?

I’ll be joining Katrina on Sunday, October 19th (later today!), to chat LIVE at the Worldwide Photo Walk After Party! Join us as we’ll chat about our photo walk experiences and how a photo walk can improve your photography! We’ll even have a private Flickr group to share photos for discussion during the live event! Get details and register here!

As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day! And if you haven’t signed-up for the Clicky Chick Creates email list yet, whatcha waiting for? You’ll get “7 Must-Have Kid Birthday Photos” printable photo tips as my thank you!

What do you do with all your photos? I wanna know!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // scrapbook layout "Love…" - wedding layout with black and white photo using red, black and white papers

Photos, photos, and more photos… over 108,000 of them in my Lightroom catalogue, let alone the boxes and boxes of prints that I have from before the digital era. Crazy, I know! Why am I telling you this? Because it’s what I do with those photos that makes my heart sing… I frame them, I post them, I share them, I gift them, I scrapbook them.

When I had my first baby, near the beginning of the digital camera era, I had snapped over 1100 photos of her before she was 3 months old – more than I had taken the previous three years combined! After framing and filling a loooooong hallway wall with photos of those early months, I feared I’d end up wallpapering my whole house with her photos before her first birthday! So I had to find another way to give those special memories some love, and that’s when I entered the world of scrapbooking!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // scrapbook layout "Dream" - sleeping little baby with booty in the air, legs tucked under, toes peeking out; lullaby subtly showing in background paper printed on vellum

In the early days, I primarily bought lots of scrappy stuff, dreaming of all the wonderful pages I would create. Truth be told, it took a while before I actually jumped in and started creating. A little bit intimidated, a little bit overwhelmed, a little bit unsure of what to do, so I started looking at classes to take (yes, I LOVE organized learning!) and found classes to help me along the way.

One of those classes (well really it’s a more of a challenge than a class) and a primary way I make time to scrap is LOAD – layout a day. And LOAD is right around the corner – during the month of February (May and October, too) we are challenged to create a layout every day. It’s AWESOME! It might sound overwhelming, but just like Capture Your 365, there are no daily police, no one is waiting to kick you out if you don’t post that day. It’s a matter of having a community to share your passion and experience with; a prompt to inspire a daily creation; and a personal goal to document your story and photos for your family and future generations.

You know those beautiful people, the ones you think just really can’t be as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside because they’re just so incredibly stunning? And when you get to know them you’re blown away by their inner beauty, love and warmth? Well, my beautiful friend Chelsea is one of those people! I had the great pleasure of photographing her gorgeous family and lovable pooch, too!
