Engagement Shaker Card & Video {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Engagement or Wedding Ring Shaker Card with how-to process video!

My baby brother proposed to his long-time girlfriend and I have been wanting to make them a card for too long! I knew I wanted to make a shaker card and after attending True Stamp this past weekend, I was absolutely inspired to get to my table and create! And on top of being inspired, I really wanted to just use what I had on hand (which is lots) and I made a little dent in my stash!

Kelly Marie Alvarez from Lawn Fawn (maker of adorable stamps!) made a super cute shaker card in her True Stamp class – I can’t wait to check out more of her videos! If you missed True Stamp, stay tuned… I’ll let you know when individual classes are available!

I hope you enjoy my card! I even made a video showing how I made it…

As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // It's the Great Pumpkin layout, The Crafter's Workshop Zinnia template, stencil, Tim Holtz Distress Ink Aged Mahogany, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, Crushed Olive, pumpkin patchIf you’ve poked around my blog at all, you know that besides photography, I love getting crafty! Making cards, home decor, scrapbook layouts… it all makes me happy! On of my favorite times of the year is right around the corner… February is LOAD (layout a day), when we focus on creating a layout every day for the month based on a daily prompt. This page was made a while back, but it’s still one of my favorite LOAD pages!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // It's the Great Pumpkin layout, The Crafter's Workshop Zinnia template, stencil, Tim Holtz Distress Ink Aged Mahogany, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, Crushed Olive, pumpkin patch

I created the background paper using The Crafter’s Workshop 12×12 template Zinnia with blending tools and Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Aged Mahogany, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, and Crushed Olive.

Pumpkins were cut with the Slice Elite and Spook Alley design card, then colored with Tim Holtz Distess Inks in Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade.

If you’re ready to get daily inspiration and have a great time making layouts, join us for LOAD214! And no, there are no LOAD police saying you have to make a page every day, so don’t let that intimidate you! It’s really a matter of creating, documenting, sharing. We get to take those photos off our hard drives and create beautiful layouts for our families to enjoy for years to come. Find out more here.

Money Trees Layout {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks // ClickyChickCreates.com // LOAD "Money doesn't grow on trees" layout, made using TCW Squiggle stencil and Tim Holtz Distress InksLayout a Day for the month of October has come and gone… Even though I didn’t get as many pages completed as I hoped I would, I’m still super happy with the few I did complete! Any pages done during LOAD is more than I started the month with : )

Connie Hanks // ClickyChickCreates.com // LOAD "Money doesn't grow on trees" layout, made using TCW Squiggle stencil and Tim Holtz Distress Inks

Our ScrapHappy sisters Lynnette and Leslie, with the help of Dani and her daily videos, led the month with prompts and amazing inspiration to create pages. The theme was “In Vogue” and the prompts took us through decades, spanning almost 100 years of amazing history. One of the prompts was “1930’s: Money is Tight” and it made me realize I hadn’t documented the chores and “work pay” we implemented this summer for our girls.

Even though we encourage our girls to save a third to half of their pay in their piggy banks, we’ve noticed one of our daughter’s is a natural saver, the other an absolute spender! It’s fun to document these types of characteristics – I definitely wonder how much they’ll change over the years! Needless to say, it was great inspiration and I love the way this turned out!

Besides my IRL family and friends, I really do love the online communities that have become family too! One of those communities is my Scrap Happy family – an online community of crafters from all over the world. Occasionally we’ll have a tag swap, so I made these three tags to send to crafty like-minded dear friends sprinkled throughout the world!

It’s almost creative madness and therapy when I’m in my craft space! With regular doses of photography and crafting, my creative heart is quite content : ) Do you craft? If so, you really should read about True Scrap below…

Lain Ehmann, the crafty and creative genius behind Scrap Happy and Layoutaday.com, is the same mastermind behind True Scrap. What is True Scrap you ask? Imagine an amazing convention with your favorite instructors and scrappy friends coming together for two-days of mind-blowing classes, without the expense of travel and craziness of logistics! It’s a fantastic way for crafters around the world to come together for two-days, via the internet, in the comfort of home! Yup, I was in my jammies for most of the True Scrap 5 classes this weekend : )

We (as in over 300 of us) had such a fantastic time learning from top leaders in the industry, topics included photography, gelli plates, paints, stamps, design principles, canvas art, and more, more, more! I’m going to be quite busy in my craft room! I’m already looking forward to the next True Scrap event… In the meantime, Lain is offering a HUGE discount on the replays from True Scrap 2. If you’re even remotely into crafting, you should definitely check it out. For the rest of today, Saturday, October 12, 2013, Lain is offering 65% off the full replays of True Scrap 2. That’s 17 instructor videos plus virtual make and takes for only $44, with code HUNK at checkout. Did I mention Lain’s a huge Hugh Jackman fan? Yup, today’s his birthday, and that’s why the code is HUNK. She’s funny that way!

Up, Up, Up {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Up, up, up hot air balloon card for Curtain Call challenge

Crafting makes me happy. I’m like a little school girl opening up a new box of crayons when I get to play with inks and stencils and die cutting machines! The Curtain Call has a fun challenge going on right now, and I decided to create this fun interpretation of the “Carnival Craze” prompt! Turns out, “Carnival” is also the theme over at Simon Says Stamp! It might be the end of summer, but nothing says summer better than carnival fun!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Up, up, up hot air balloon card for Curtain Call challenge

I cut out the letters for “UP” using the Summer Design Card on the Slice Elite. I actually cut them out three times each, stacked and glued them to give them a little more weight. Then cut a rectangle out from a piece of scratch paper to create the inked boxed letters. Using a blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade and Squeezed Lemonade, gave me just the look I was going for!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Up, up, up hot air balloon card for Curtain Call challenge

Then I covered the boxed letters art with a piece of scratch cardstock and placed The Crafter’s Workshop cosmic swirl template over it, blending in some more Tim Holtz Distress Ink, but this time in Broken China. I was trying to create a whimsical sky. Did it work?

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Up, up, up hot air balloon card for Curtain Call challenge

After cutting out the hot air balloons in various sizes, I added a little Stickles in Cotton Candy to the main balloon and adhered the balloons onto the card using foam dots. Used a decorative corner punch from Fiskars, and added some alpha tabs, and card is done!

I love the way these colors all work together, don’t you? Oh, that reminds me… Don’t forget to sign up for the FREE “Color Me Scrappy” webinar happening this coming Monday, August 26th. I’ve been attending the free monthly webinars over at Layout A Day for over a year now and I have to say, not a month goes by that I don’t learn a great tip or two that can apply to my crafty creations, and sometimes even my photography. Hope to “see” you then!

PS. A blogger {CompletelyDisappear} recently posted a song called “Clouds” by Zach Sobiech and I would be remiss to leave out how much his song has touched my heart and definitely inspired my card today! I’ll warn you: get a tissue, the youtube video is a touching story about his life…

Sweet Blessing {Feeling Crafty}

ClickyChickCreates.com // Sweet Blessing baby boy shower card with onesies on a clothesline

Last month we celebrated my baby sister’s pregnancy with a couple of baby showers. So of course I had to get crafty!

ClickyChickCreates.com // Sweet Blessing baby boy shower card with onesies on a clothesline

She’s having a baby boy (in case the blue onesies didn’t give it away!) and I am so excited to meet him next month! My nephew will be the first boy in our family, and my daughters are thrilled to have a cousin to play with and love!

ClickyChickCreates.com // Sweet Blessing baby boy shower card with onesies on a clothesline

Sweet blessing indeed! I really look forward to the experiences and memories my daughters and nephew will have together! There’s nothing like building forts, or going swimming, or playing house, or sleepovers, or road trips, or birthdays, or holidays, or a million other things… with cousins! What an exciting adventure they have ahead : )

What are some of your favorite memories growing up with cousins? I’d love to hear in the comments below! Thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!
