Dear Santa {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Dear Santa layout using My Mind's Eye Vintage Christmas papers, tags, embossing, kraft tags, twine, wood veneer snowflake embellishments

Oh yes, I’m scrapbooking about Christmas! I know, it’s May and we’re having an insane heat wave in California, but this month is LOAD514 (Layout A Day) and I’m a Featured Designer! The prompt “Dear Santa” inspired me to tell the story about the “letters to santa” mailing tube I bought way before my hubby and I had kids! I guess I was dreaming about babies instead of sugar plums that winter ūüôā

When creating this page, the alphas¬†I had in my stash were the perfect size, a great clean font, but they just didn’t have the pizzazz I wanted so I heat embossed them using Versamark and a glitter/tinsel embossing powder. And voila, exactly what I wanted!

As I¬†picked photos and papers, I saw that it was getting a bit busy, so I decided to add the journaling to layered tags that I could tuck under the photos. Note: remember to create a bit of a pocket and NOT add tape to the section you’ll be tucking your journaling behind! Oops!

Do you scrapbook? Or create photo books? Do you journal and document your stories? That’s the stuff future generations will love to hear about! Be sure to take the time to jot down those memories – whether in your own handwriting or typed up – your kids will love reading your stories!

How do you say thank you?

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handmade thank you card with stamping and embossing

I’m constantly torn when I hand off images to clients and friends… My background in marketing and business expects a polished, professional package that is serious and means business. But the playful, whimsical, artsy side of me wants nothing to do with that and would rather deliver a handmade, not pre-manufactured package with more of an organic look and feel.

For the most part, this is what my clients receive when I deliver digital images to them. A handmade thank you card and a cd with high resolution files for prints, along with low resolution, watermarked images for online sharing. What do you think? Does it work? Too unprofessional? Too whimsical? Any suggestions? I’m all ears and would love to hear your thoughts!

Sweet Blessing {Feeling Crafty}

Last month we celebrated my baby sister’s pregnancy with a couple of baby showers. So of course I had to get crafty!

She’s having a baby boy (in case the blue onesies didn’t give it away!) and I am so excited to meet him next month! My nephew will be the first boy in our family, and my daughters are thrilled to have a cousin to play with and love!

Sweet blessing indeed! I really look forward to the experiences and memories my daughters and nephew will have together! There’s nothing like building forts, or going swimming, or playing house, or sleepovers, or road trips, or birthdays, or holidays, or a million other things… with cousins! What an exciting adventure they have ahead : )

What are some of your favorite memories growing up with cousins? I’d love to hear in the comments below! Thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!

Nautical {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // nautical card featuring ship, waves in the ocean and treasure life sentiment

My dear friend and fellow crafter Danni made the most adorable card and posted it at her blog, {Made In} Apt 14. The card was in response to the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge РFeeling Nautical, a new challenge to me, but super inspiring.

Low and behold, my sister-in-law Gina and I were inspired by the nautical theme and made this whimsical, boyish card!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // nautical card featuring ship, waves in the ocean and treasure life sentiment

The ship was cut out of plain white cardstock using the “Under the Sea” design card on my Slice Elite (love that machine!), then masked and stamped with two different stamps – a whimsical one on the sails and a woodgrain on the boat, using Distress Inks in Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap and Walnut Stain. Swipes of Distress Stain in Broken China and Tumbled Glass we used on the background, a top the clear embossed whimsical stamp representing the rocky waves of the ocean. The “Treasure Life” sentiment is from Close to My Heart, and it was tied off with some Twinery Twine in Cappuccino.

It’s my first time participating in a card challenge. There were some amazing cards linked and I’m really excited to check ’em out!

Are there any challenges that have inspired you recently? Photo or crafting? I’d love to see, so share a link in the comments below! Thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!

“Dyed” Easter Eggs {Feeling Crafty}

2013-03-23_4068_retro-warm

We “dyed” Easter eggs today! My girls and I wanted to make a “Happy Easter” banner, so we poked around Pinterest to get our creative juices flowing. We found lots of banners with egg shaped panels. So when I went to start pulling patterned cardstock, I remembered I had a pack of Heidi Swapp Color Magic Resist paper that I hadn’t used yet. I love using stencils/templates (or “stemplates” as Lain Ehmann calls ’em!) with Dylusions Spray Inks and usually make my own patterned paper. But remembering the Heidi Swapp pack I had gave me the idea to “dye” my own eggs!

Using my Slice e-cutter and Dilly Dally design card, I cut 4″ eggs from three different patterned Heidi Swapp papers; using the Basic Shapes 3 design card, I cut 3″ letters from brown cardstock. I chalked the edges of the letters using VersaMagic Chalk Ink in Cloud White and added Ice Stickles in Strawberry Ice.

WIth Dylusions Sprays in Fresh Lime, Lemon Zest, Squeezed Orange, Vibrant Turquoise,and Bubblegum Pink, I dyed our eggs! Added some washi tape, and using foam dots adhered the letters to the eggs. Twine and mini clothes pins finished the look and our banner panels/eggs were now ready to be displayed!
