Intricate // Macro Details {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // macro photograph of petal layers of pink rose

I’m squeaking in at the 11th hour with my submission to the Daily Post photo challenge this week. The theme is “Intricate” and these recent photos are totally in my mind with the amazing details that get overlooked so very often.

Have you ever looked closely at the details on the petals of a rose? Or the wick of a candle? Sometimes, it’s just the little things that fascinate!

I truly love when my girls notice the world around them and proudly point out their discovery to me. Maybe it’s the photographer in me, but it’s definitely the mama in me, that smiles ear-to-ear, happy and proud that my girls are observant and appreciative of the world around them! My 5-year old had to stop us dead in our tracks while we visited the San Diego Zoo with our sweet friends Lynnette and Gracie, when she noticed this beautiful heart shaped leaf. It was high above us, but somehow she noticed it and I love that she made us pause to take in it’s beauty.

Buy Cupid Love banner on Etsy

Buy Fall in Love banner on Etsy

Buy Cupid Amour banner on Etsy

All of these are handmade by yours truly 🙂 I love adding the extra touch by dry or heat embossing to add texture, hand faux-stitching, distressing, stamping, cutting…whatever it takes to give it that extra something to make it extra special! Visit the Clicky Chick Creates Etsy shop to order yours today!

Or if you’re inspired to make any of these on your own, below are all the goodies I used to make them! My biggest tips to you:

  • When picking your papers, pick a patterned paper for your pennants (background) and a solid card stock for your letters.
  • Adding custom touches to your letters helps them pop – think heat embossing, dry embossing  for texture, glitter, hand faux-stitching and more!
  • If your letters don’t pop against the patterned paper, add a neutral colored shadow behind the letters to give them some pop!

How do you say thank you?

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handmade thank you card with stamping and embossing

I’m constantly torn when I hand off images to clients and friends… My background in marketing and business expects a polished, professional package that is serious and means business. But the playful, whimsical, artsy side of me wants nothing to do with that and would rather deliver a handmade, not pre-manufactured package with more of an organic look and feel.

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // hearts punched and stacked for a handtag Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handmade thank you card with stamping and embossing

For the most part, this is what my clients receive when I deliver digital images to them. A handmade thank you card and a cd with high resolution files for prints, along with low resolution, watermarked images for online sharing. What do you think? Does it work? Too unprofessional? Too whimsical? Any suggestions? I’m all ears and would love to hear your thoughts!

Paper Heart // Simple {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // You are loved always, heart from a book, simple.

I’ve been playing along with Katrina Kennedy’s Capture Your 365 over the last week or so, and I am LOVING the inspiration! Okay, truth be told, I’ve been receiving the daily prompts for months and months. I loved reading Katrina’s tips and daily inspiration. I just hadn’t taken the time to make shooting a daily part of life. More like once or twice a week. But after reading one of Katrina’s posts about the collective story our photos tell.. well, I’ll let you read her post here, and you can feel the same inspiration and creative pull I felt too. And after seeing the entire list of prompts for the month, I just decided to go ahead and jump in when I could.

Today’s prompt was SIMPLE, and the photo example of paper with light and shadows reminded me of a photo I saw years ago that I always loved – a heart shaped from pages in a book. Maybe it was an image by Katrina Kennedy? Maybe it was by Tracey Clark? I don’t recall, but I absolutely LOVED the way it looked. As I was setting up the shot, my daughters came into the frame and started hugging, then my 6 year old started carrying my 4 year old (not that you can even see that!). Regardless, it just came together better than this mama could’ve wanted : )

So this is my take on Simple. Are you playing along? Link up in the comments – I’d love to see your take on Simple!

As always, thanks for stopping by. Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!
