Vintage Beauty {Feeling Crafty}

Product choices can help make our layout choices so much easier! I loved these photos of my baby girl and the vibe they gave with her dress and the retro kitchen. Digging through my stash, I found some old Teresa Collins journaling cards on a 12×12 sheet and loved the design. I wanted to mimic the feel of it, so I cut out a similar shape on pink cardstock using my Slice e-cutter, then heat embossed the edge of it with black embossing powder for the close-up photo.

Using a punch on the edge for the bigger frame, I used the same heat embossing technique to create a custom look on the frame. Neither frame is “perfect” but it looks very vintage which works for this layout!

Adding details in similar colors and to support the vintage vibe just pulls it all together, even though all the pieces are from separate collections, spanning at least 5 years! I don’t make a lot of my own kits, but this layout inspires me to do that and create custom kits to meet my eclectic needs! How about you? Do you use kits? Do you create your own kits? I’d love to hear your insights and tips!

The photos were taken at a friend’s birthday party, but wouldn’t that be an adorable kitchen to use as a photo prop in a studio?! I totally loved it!

Soundtrack of Your Life {Feeling Crafty}

We all have them… those songs that leave a footprint on your heart; they take you back in time; they put a smile on your face; they make you get up and dance; maybe they even bring a tear to your eye (hopefully joyful tears). Whatever it is, those songs, yes, THOSE songs, are the soundtrack of our lives.

Have you ever scrapbooked those songs? Shared why they’re so meaningful? Or even about the lyrics you were certain said something completely different than what they were? Or the people you think of that you shared a special moment in time with that song? Road trip music? Prom music? Wedding music? How about the mix tapes that were so amazing to receive from friends, boyfriends or girlfriends! So many reasons to scrapbook those songs!

Being part of LOAD514 (Layout a day) this month (especially as a featured designer / scrapper), I just can’t tell you how great it feels to get these stories told! Once we finally decided on “It Had to be You” by Harry Connick Jr., my hubby was such a great sport agreeing to take dance lessons. After a false start on the dance floor, our DJ finally got the music right and we did our dance! Poor hubby, nervous as he was, I think he was counting the steps the entire dance, but he did great!

So what’s on your soundtrack? I’d love to hear about it, so leave me a comment!

How do you say thank you?

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // handmade thank you card with stamping and embossing

I’m constantly torn when I hand off images to clients and friends… My background in marketing and business expects a polished, professional package that is serious and means business. But the playful, whimsical, artsy side of me wants nothing to do with that and would rather deliver a handmade, not pre-manufactured package with more of an organic look and feel.

For the most part, this is what my clients receive when I deliver digital images to them. A handmade thank you card and a cd with high resolution files for prints, along with low resolution, watermarked images for online sharing. What do you think? Does it work? Too unprofessional? Too whimsical? Any suggestions? I’m all ears and would love to hear your thoughts!

T Kids Sneak Peek {Photo Session}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // family photos, kids, siblings, hats, trains, rustic, park, love, laughter

I’ve been fortunate to know these kids their WHOLE lives! I’ve known their parents for over twenty years, having met back in college, and I consider them some of our nearest and dearest friends. Even now, our families spend lots of time together as our daughters are best of friends!
