Make It Monday // Christmas Card Swap

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Believe in the Magic of Christmas , snowman shaker card

What do you do when life gets so hectic and you can’t keep up? Fun stuff gets pushed down the list of to do’s. Sometimes they even get pushed out to the next month! And that’s why I’m sharing a Christmas Card post in January ūüôā

MakeItMondayCircle-Jan16Welcome to another Make It Monday! I’m so excited to share a creative post with you this week!¬†Even though Christmas has come and gone, I still wanted to share¬†this cute snowman card! Isn’t he adorable?! I love when companies make great products and include awesome stitched detailing on their dies!

I decided to make a simple white card with die cuts to make the shaker card, but I also wanted to add a little extra oomph, so I embossed the face of the card with a fun snowflake embossing folder from Darice. It really ties it all together!

And every time I move the glitter and beads in the shaker, I swear it gives the snowman a different face, lol! I didn’t create a video for this card, but you can see a similar style card in this video I made using palm tree dies!

I hope you enjoy this card and are inspired to create! Especially with all the snow certain parts of the US is experiencing, might be fun time to make some snowman shaker cards! I think this would be fabulous with a¬†“baby it’s cold outside” sentiment! What do you think? What sentiment would you add instead of a Christmas sentiment? I’d love to hear in the comments!

I also used the Darice Woodgrain¬†embossing folder to make the cardstock look and feel like a tree, which gives it a little whimsical feel, don’t ya¬†think?

Make It Monday // Penguin Card {Top Dog Dies}

MakeItMondayButton-Christmas2Welcome to another Make it Monday! The Christmas season is almost here and it’s time to start preparing! Perfect time to share this cute little penguin card I made using the Top Dog Dies Penguin Die Set!

TDD_CH_Winter-Penguins_1857

The set includes the cute penguins in both sizes, both hats, the stitched hill slope and snowflakes. Really, they thought of everything for this set!

TDD_CH_Winter-Penguins_1861 TDD_CH_Winter-Penguins_1862

It was super quick and easy to put this card together, just cutting out the pieces from the various colored cardstock. I did use a snowflake embossing folder to give the blue background a little extra oomph, but the rest of the pieces came in the set!

I hope you’re inspired to make some penguin cards to share with your loved ones this holiday!

Christmas Snowman Card {Top Dog Dies}

Yesterday I shared a little peek of the Snowman Card I made for the new winter release over at Top Dog Dies. And here it is in all it’s glory!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // stitched Snowman card on snowflake background using Top Dog Dies,

I used 3 of the new dies on this card. I love that the dies all coordinate so beautifully together, making crafting a breeze! For this card, I used the Top Dog Dies Snowman Die Set, the Top Dog Dies Penguin Die Set, and the Top Dog Dies Snowflake Mosaic Die Set.

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // stitched Snowman card on snowflake background using Top Dog Dies, Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // stitched Snowman card on snowflake background using Top Dog Dies,

From the Penguin Die Set, I used the stitched sloping hillsides – seriously just adore all those little details! And the best part is that you don’t have to use dies for only cards. They’re great for gift tags, scrapbook layouts, planner embellishments, you can even make ornaments! The options really are endless ūüôā

I have a few more Christmas / winter / holiday themed cards I’ll be sharing throughout the month. I hope you’re inspired to check out¬†Top Dog Dies and find some goodies you can’t live without!

Photo Challenge: Distant

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // rainbow over canyon and park with grey clouds

Now that we’re almost completely settled into our new home, I have time to catch up on some of my favorite blogs! There are some fantastic ones out there, and I always love challenges – photography and paper crafting in particular. This week, A Word a Week Photo Challenge landed on the word “Distant” and although my mind was going in a billion different directions, I finally landed on two thoughts…

First, this rainbow I “caught” earlier this year. It was a gray day, but after dropping my girls off at school, I spotted the colorful creation and drove to a nearby park with some open space to grab a quick shot. Those gorgeous rainbows are always elusive, aren’t they?!

My other thought was on the fact that I still have so many photos I haven’t done anything with from my trip earlier this year to France. While in Paris, it started snowing on us! The trip was only four months ago, but the memories and adventure already feels like the distant past. So I pulled this photo of the snow coming down over the Louvre, and as I was processing, I decided to have some colorful Andy Warhol inspired fun!

What photos, memories or visuals come to mind when you hear the word distant? I’d love to hear. And you can always play along in the challenge. Wishing you a beautiful and colorful day!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!

Catching Snowflakes {Feeling Crafty}

Image

If you’ve poked around my blog at all, you know I have a love for Lain Ehmann’s¬†Layout a Day (LOAD). It’s a month long scrapbooking challenge¬†that takes place three times per year, and May is one of those months. It’s a wonderful way to create scrapbook pages based on daily prompts – some are silly, some are insightful, some are reflective, all are open for interpretation, and many are flat out amazing! Some of my most favorite scrapbook pages I’ve ever made have come out of LOAD over the past year, where the prompts have inspired me to tell a story or scrap a photo that I really don’t think I would’ve ever considered on my own.

Image

Yesterday’s prompt inspired me to create a page about the first time my daughters experienced snow! It was an amazing experience to watch the spark in their eyes, particularly my then 4 year old. She really wanted to catch snowflakes on her tongue!

Image

I decided I wanted to create my own background paper, as I wanted the color to really pick up the light turquoise in their hats. Using Hero Arts snowflake stamp, VersaMark watermark stamp, and Stamp-n Stuff in Star Dust, I heat embossed the glittery snowflakes onto my white cardstock base. I started with stamping in the top center section of the page, spilling off the top edge. Then I rotated the stamp 1/4 turn and stamped to each side of the first stamp mark. It’s a little hard to see because the watermark can look transparent, but even if you overlap a little, it still looks beautiful!

On top of that, I blended Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Stormy Sky, in that order, gradually varying the colors for depth texture. I love how it turned out!

Image

Image

Punching out snowflakes and embossing them to make embellishments helped complete the look. The cute “so happy” banner is from Carta Bella’s new “So Noted” collection – love that line! I also love that I used some really old products – like the pink border strip across the bottom, as well as the thickers for my title. I think these have each been in my stash for at least a few years! Thanks again to Lain for challenging us to use up our stash!!

Thanks for stopping by and have a joyful, creative, blessing filled day!
