Eerie // Louvre Art {Photo Challenge}

When I read The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge: Eerie, I immediately thought of all the ghouls and creepy things that came with Halloween. But then I remembered a couple of shots I took on my last day in Paris, inside the Louvre. I loved these images, but never really knew what I was going to do with them. Thank heavens for prompts making me think outside the box!

We had just a couple of hours at the Louvre before we had to head to the train station to continue our adventure in the South of France. My girlfriends and I decided to go our own ways in the Louvre as we all wanted to see different things. On my way about, I got a bit twisted around, but luckily found these sculptures that caught my attention in the Richelieu wing.

Color has a way of making me feel happy or sophisticated or playful or overwhelmed or optimistic or a myriad of other emotions. But one color that always makes me happy and makes me think of how lucky I am to have two very girly daughters… PINK! It’s funny how a prompt can make you think of colors in such a different way!

Do prompts help you in your photography? They’ve definitely helped me in a couple ways recently. One is that I will sometimes get the creative time to photograph with a specific goal in mind, a specific image I see and want to bring to fruition. The other way is that it’s helped me go through my photo library and see different themes or patterns in my photo style. A friend once told me she recognized a thumbnail image in an online gallery as my image before she even opened it up to see the entire photo. It surprised me to hear her say that, but I’m now understanding what she meant. Even though I feel my eye and style continues to evolve, I do have a specific photo style: I like lots of color, I fill the frame, I look for the light to get bright shots, I mostly use a shallow depth of field, I think with the rule of thirds, and I love natural light!

The theme this week for The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: SATURATED reminded me that part of my style is a very colorful, saturated look. I even wrote an entire blog post about my love of color here and my love of natural light here. I know a lot of photographers like a washed out look, or filled with sunflares, or very dark and moody, or composites, or… the list can go on and on. There are so many ways to see the world. But I’ve always loved seeing the color in the world. So even though I could have probably posted half of my entire photo library for this post, I decide to just pick a few. I hope you enjoy!

Sunflower {CY365 & Texture Tuesday}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // sunflower and quote, with Kim Klassen textures

The prompt recently at Capture Your 365 was “Brown,” so I decided to grab a shot of the lovely sunflowers my hubby brought home recently for our 13th wedding anniversary. I’m really enjoying the daily dose of creativity to capture an image of something in our daily life. Definitely inspiring!

I also decided to use some Kim Klassen textures – love the look they give, such a finished look! I used Unleashed and Revolution. Kim’s really generous with her free textures. Check them out when you can!

As for my photograph, do you see anything in the center of the sunflower? I’d love to hear! My hubby, daughters and I each see a face, but a face of something different! A lion, a bird, a dragon, a zebra. What do you see? Let me know in the comments : )

From Lines to Patterns {Photo Challenge}

“From Lines to Patterns” is the theme for this weeks challenge at the Daily Post. I decided to dig through my archives to feature some of my faves : ) Here’s a little sampling of Balboa Park, Paris, our old palm tree, kindergarten art, and the Rosarito Beach Hotel pier. Enjoy!

Dream // POV {Photo Challenge}

2013-09-07_0553_POV

The prompt this week at The Daily Post is “Unusual POV” and I decided to have a little fun with this shot. My girls and I were snacking on some grapes and one of my daughters was having grape juice. It made me think of “grown-up grape juice” and I couldn’t help but wonder if all grapes aspire to become wine? : )

I knew I wanted a really dreamy background for the shot, so I decided to use my Canon 50mm f/1.4. I don’t pull this lens out often enough! What’s your favorite lens to use for dreamy, creamy, bokeh-filled backgrounds?
