Make It Monday // Holiday Treat and Tag {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Rice Krispies treats with Hershey Candy Cane Kisses, Christmas, ornament, gift tag, DIY, quick, easy, hostess giftMakeItMondayButton-Christmas2Welcome to another Make It Monday! I have a major sweet tooth and love having treats year round. But when the holidays roll around, there are wonderful seasonal flavors that make the indulgence that much sweeter!

Have you tried Hersheys Candy Cane Kisses? They are amazing! Because of my sweet tooth, I have a hard time passing up seasonal candies, but truth be told, sometimes seasonal candies are better in concept than they actually taste in my mouth! So when I tried these, I was so delighted with how yummy they were!

Friends invited us over for outdoor movie night (yes, a southern California luxury in the middle of winter!) and I had decided to bring over some Rice Krispies treats. As I started making them, I decided I would chop up some of the Candy Cane Kisses to add to the treats. WOW! I seriously can’t even tell you how yummy they came out! If you are even a tiny bit into either of these treats (Rice Krispies and candy canes), then you MUST give this recipe a try!

Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp butter
  • one 10 oz bag (~6 cups) Jet-Puffed miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • 20 to 24 Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses, unwrapped

DIRECTIONS

  1. Chop up kisses into tiny pieces, set aside.
  2. Melt butter in large microwave safe bowl, approx 1 minute.
  3. Add marshmallows to butter. Toss to coat. Melt marshmallows in microwave (approximately 1-1/2 minutes), stirring every 45 seconds.
  4. Add Rice Krispies (2 cups at a time) to melted marshmallow mixture and stir well.
  5. Once all Rice Krispies are incorporated, mix in half of the chopped Candy Cane Kisses. Stir well. Incorporate remaining chopped Candy Cane Kisses.
  6. Place mixture into greased 13×9 baking dish. Press down and into place, filling in corners and evening out – using parchment paper and back of measuring cup helps to press down!
  7. Set aside and let set for a couple hours or place in refrigerator to speed up setting time.
  8. Cut up into one to two inch squares or use candy cane cookie cutters for shaped treats. Enjoy! Or share by place cut pieces into cupcake liners and stack in treat bag for your loved ones to enjoy, too!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Snowflake Cupcake Toppers, stitched snowflakes, variations, stamping, punches, die cut Welcome to another Make It Monday blog hop with a few crafty and creative friends from all corners of the world! Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Make It Monday, blog hop Today I’m sharing some fun ideas for Snowflake Cupcake Toppers! Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Snowflake Cupcake Toppers, stitched snowflakes, variations, stamping, punches, die cut You might recall that my girls (ahem, most little girls) have gone through the Frozen phenomenon? It still continues! And besides Disney’s Frozen stars of humans, animals, snow and snowy creatures, the holidays are coming, so what a fun way to think about Christmas, winter or snowy decorations for yummy cupcake treats!

I wanted to use items I had in my stash of scrapbooking and crafting supplies. So I pulled out mostly items I’ve had for years: punches, my electronic digital cutter, and stamps. I did recently purchase a manual cutter, and I couldn’t resist some fun dies to use with it, so they made an appearance in these cupcake toppers, too! Room for One More? {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // sweet tablescape featuring handmade sweet treats, fresh flowers, mini root beer floats, cameo chocolate covered strawberries, cameo cupcakes

Every May, the MOMs group I belong to at church hosts a phenomenal annual Mother’s Day Brunch for it’s members. It’s a fantastic event, with great food, friends and fellowship. We usually have a guest speaker, fashion show, decor and/or lifestyle advice with lots of great tips and tricks.

Throughout the year, many of our meetings are focused on parenting, marriage, finances, charity, and more, so the brunch truly is a fun meeting, focused on celebrating us not just as Mom’s, but as sophisticated modern women girly girls!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // sweet tablescape featuring handmade sweet treats, fresh flowers, mini root beer floats, cameo chocolate covered strawberries, cameo cupcakes

One of the beautiful aspects of the brunch is that members will volunteer to decorate a table and it’s simply gorgeous to walk in and take the beauty and design of each tablescape! Each table is as unique as the mom who has volunteered to decorate it. Some will have china, some will have party ware, some will have fresh flowers, others will have balloons. I’ve seen a table as formal for a queen to dine, one with a beautiful religious motif, one that was quite tropical and you felt like you were in Hawaii on vacation!

But one of our mom’s, Karin, always spoils her table guests with her handmade sweet treats! Honestly, she shares her talents with us throughout the entire year (we’re blessed!), but the MOM’s Brunch, people get there early to stake out a spot at her table. I’m always running late and have yet to secure a spot at her table!

I think Karin’s sweet treats table and the other tables are absolutely amazing! What do you think? Do you do anything similar with any sort of club or organization you belong to? It really is a treat for the eyes to take in all the decor!

Well there’s no better time to share some of my favorite photos of this holiday season than now! The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge: One asks us to show photos that highlight “one thing”. To me, that means my love of shallow depth of field and wide open aperture will definitely work for this challenge!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Mummy Juice Boxes in 5 easy steps - perfect party drinks for pre-schoolers and young elementary aged kids

Yummy Mummy Juice Boxes {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Mummy Juice Boxes - perfect party drinks for pre-schoolers and young elementary aged kidsOctober is here! Pumpkin Spice Lattes are on the menu! Fall is here! Okay, well San Diego’s version of fall : ) And fall has always been my favorite season. It kicks off with my older daughters birthday and leads into the most wonderful and magical holidays of the year!

So a couple years ago I started bringing these fun little mummy juice boxes to my daughter’s Halloween parties. They were quite a hit! I’m not sure how much longer they’ll be “cool” as my girls get older, but I think I’ve still got a good few years before we get to that “no, mom, don’t make those!” stage : )

To make them, I used a few rolls of masking tape, some copy paper, tape, glue and googly eyes.

1. Remove the straws from each box, leaving the straws wrapped in the plastic if possible, and place them all together in a plastic cup. You can wrap the plastic cup into a mummy as well!

2. Use copy paper to cover the juice boxes since the masking tape is rather thin and the juice box packaging will show thru the tape. When I originally read about the idea, the author used white electricians tape. Trust me – it’s way cheaper to use the copy paper and masking tape : ) I just trimmed a piece of copy paper to wrap around the juice box, not worrying about the top or bottoms showing, and used a little tape to keep it in place.

3. Add a few pieces of masking tape to cover the top of the box, but be sure to leave on open, non-taped space where the juice box opening for the straw is located.

4. Start wrapping the juice box with the masking tape from the bottom working up, adding a little angle and slant with each loop around the box, all the way to the top. Be sure to overlap the tape a touch – just like a mummy would have overlapping wrapping.

5. Glue on googly eyes, about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up on the box (or if you can find them with the sticky backs, then save yourself a step with the glue). Add another layer of tape, angling the tape the opposite direction of how the box was wrapped, about 2 to 3 loops, and cover the eyes just a tad to secure them and  to give it that real “mummy” look.
