Make It Monday // Holiday Treat and Tag {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Rice Krispies treats with Hershey Candy Cane Kisses, Christmas, ornament, gift tag, DIY, quick, easy, hostess giftMakeItMondayButton-Christmas2Welcome to another Make It Monday! I have a major sweet tooth and love having treats year round. But when the holidays roll around, there are wonderful seasonal flavors that make the indulgence that much sweeter!

Have you tried Hersheys Candy Cane Kisses? They are amazing! Because of my sweet tooth, I have a hard time passing up seasonal candies, but truth be told, sometimes seasonal candies are better in concept than they actually taste in my mouth! So when I tried these, I was so delighted with how yummy they were!

Friends invited us over for outdoor movie night (yes, a southern California luxury in the middle of winter!) and I had decided to bring over some Rice Krispies treats. As I started making them, I decided I would chop up some of the Candy Cane Kisses to add to the treats. WOW! I seriously can’t even tell you how yummy they came out! If you are even a tiny bit into either of these treats (Rice Krispies and candy canes), then you MUST give this recipe a try!

Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp butter
  • one 10 oz bag (~6 cups) Jet-Puffed miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • 20 to 24 Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses, unwrapped

DIRECTIONS

  1. Chop up kisses into tiny pieces, set aside.
  2. Melt butter in large microwave safe bowl, approx 1 minute.
  3. Add marshmallows to butter. Toss to coat. Melt marshmallows in microwave (approximately 1-1/2 minutes), stirring every 45 seconds.
  4. Add Rice Krispies (2 cups at a time) to melted marshmallow mixture and stir well.
  5. Once all Rice Krispies are incorporated, mix in half of the chopped Candy Cane Kisses. Stir well. Incorporate remaining chopped Candy Cane Kisses.
  6. Place mixture into greased 13×9 baking dish. Press down and into place, filling in corners and evening out – using parchment paper and back of measuring cup helps to press down!
  7. Set aside and let set for a couple hours or place in refrigerator to speed up setting time.
  8. Cut up into one to two inch squares or use candy cane cookie cutters for shaped treats. Enjoy! Or share by place cut pieces into cupcake liners and stack in treat bag for your loved ones to enjoy, too!

Well there’s no better time to share some of my favorite photos of this holiday season than now! The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge: One asks us to show photos that highlight “one thing”. To me, that means my love of shallow depth of field and wide open aperture will definitely work for this challenge!

Along with some of my fave images, I thought I’d share some of my favorite songs of the season, too!

And that’s just a few of my favorite Christmas songs! What are yours? What Christmas songs touch you emotionally, whether it’s a smile on your face or a tear in your eye? What photos have you captured this holiday season that makes your heart sing? I’d love to see or hear, so let me know in the comments!

Christmas Tradition

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // letters to Santa ornament, bokeh, Christmas tree, star shaped bokeh, holiday, festiveAbout 10 years ago, my hubby and I celebrated new year’s with about twenty of our closest college friends up in Big Bear, California. Every year for new year’s this same group of friends would celebrate the holiday together, exploring different cities in our wonderful state. San Francisco, Napa, Palm Springs, San Diego, Orange County – all were amazing!

But back to Big Bear… while out enjoying the snowy town and hot toddys, we snuck in a little shopping when I bought this adorable ornament. All of the trips aforementioned were pre-kids, but I knew we’d eventually have a family and I fell in love with the idea of our future babies tucking their letters to Santa into this old fashioned mailing tube!

Fast forward to now, and it has become a definite must for my girls! It’s one of my most favorite traditions! I love that my girls love it as much as I do!
