Multi Generation M Family {Sneak Peek}

Capturing extended families together brings me so much joy!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Multi-generation family photo session at Balboa Park, San Diego, CAWhen you think about how America was founded, it was individuals and families leaving their loved ones behind to bravely travel, plant themselves in foreign land, and grow roots. So although it’s been happening for as long as time, I know it’s hard to see our loved ones move away, whether it’s out of the neighborhood, out of state or to a foreign country. Nowadays, so many families have loved ones scattered across the country, or even across the globe. And that’s especially when I love being a photographer, and being asked to capture family portraits while all the loved ones are in one spot!

I was ecstatic when the M family contacted me for a multi-generation family photo session. The love, joy and camaraderie between all the family was lovely to see! We did get lucky with the San Diego sunshine, but boy-oh-boy was it cold that day! I know we can’t really complain, but really, for San Diego? It was freezing cold! The entire family were troopers and we kept trucking along with jackets and hugs for warming up between shots!

I loved the session and hope the M family did as well! Happy New Year!

Make It Monday // Resolutions {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Family Resolutions, goals, scrapbooking, layout, clouds, hikingConnie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Make It Monday!Welcome back to another Make It Monday! It’s a new year, and with it comes new goals, resolutions, hopes and dreams!

On New Year’s Eve, my family and I spent a relaxing and lovely evening at home, eating, dancing, playing a board game and talking about our resolutions. My girls are 8 and 5 (5-and-a-half, to be more precise!), so the goals included sharing and helping, which were really sweet to hear ❤

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Family Resolutions, goals, scrapbooking, layout, clouds, hiking

One of the goals we all discussed was being healthier, and since it was a beautiful morning, we decided to head out as a family and hike a trail! Before kids, my husband and I loved doing that more frequently, but it had been way too long for either of us! It was beautiful and our girls really loved the outing.

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Family Resolutions, goals, scrapbooking, layout, clouds, hiking

Does the photo of the 5 of us look familiar? I posted it last week, right after new year’s, and was prompted to take the photo from the “Good Morning” prompt at Capture Your 365. I knew immediately I wanted to create a scrapbook layout with our family selfie! Most of my pages are of my girls, but one of my goals for this year is to get my husband and I on the pages a bit more frequently 🙂

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Family Resolutions, goals, scrapbooking, layout, clouds, hiking

I knew exactly the paper I wanted to use for the layout – it was kraft and had clouds all over it. I searched my stash and suddenly I realized I didn’t have it. Did I think I had bought it but really didn’t? Nope. I had bought it. Turns out I had already used that paper! Oops! So, I found another cloud paper I loved and decided to make my own cloud paper to complement it. I used a stencil, blending tool and white ink. Easy, peasy!

Wanna see how I made the cloud background paper? Check out my video! And I’ll have a full process video up later this week sharing how the entire layout came together!

Although this layout is about our family goals, I’m also working through some personal goals. One of those is to create a scrapbook layout weekly! Yes, you read that right! I have lots of stories to share and want to get them down on paper before they’re forgotten. Other goals involve growing my blog and businesses. So expect more here at Clicky Chick Creates! More routine posting, series posts, more tutorials, too! Some will focus on crafting, some on photography. I’m excited and hope you are too! Are there are any specific questions you have or posts you’d like to see? Let me know in the comments!

What are your creative goals for 2015? Inquiring minds want to know!

New // Think Over {Photo Challenge}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Champagne ChristmasThe new year is welcomed with new photo challenges…

I have now been blogging for almost two years, with 290 posts, and a huge majority of those being photo focused. I think in 2014, I participated in the Daily Post weekly photo challenge at least 50 of the weeks in the year! But there have been lots of other photo-centered posts, too. Where do I find the inspiration for those? Mostly at Capture Your 365, with daily prompts and a fantastic, inspiring and supportive community. Katrina decided to mix things up a bit this year and along with the daily prompts, we have weekly overarching themes. So whether you’re interested in daily or weekly inspiration, CY365 is another great source to tap into! Have you signed up for the free daily prompts? You’ll see my contributions as part of the Creative Team! Be sure to say hi if you pop over to the gallery or forum!

For today’s post, I decided to merge both DP and CY365 prompts… NEW and THINK OVER.

The new year usually brings along new resolutions. We spent a lot of family time together yesterday, starting our day with a lovely hike at a beautiful San Diego trail.

Last night, we continued our new year’s celebration with family game night. I also decided to enjoy another glass of champagne! While we were enjoying our game, with the tree and lights in the background, I was contemplating my goals and dreams for the year… more champagne, more photos, more family time, better time management, more patience, less stress, better sleep schedule, more business, less sugar, more crafting. Still need some ironing out, but at least I’m thinking it over! What are your goals, dreams, resolutions for the year?

Warmth // My Girls {Photo Challenge}

Warm Seasons Greetings from my family to yours!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Sister photo session, Iron Mountain Trail, Old Poway Park, sisters, rustic, park, field

My girls, as most kids in born in the last decade, are quite comfortable being in front of the camera. They automatically warm up to it and have their poses down… from sweet sisters, to silly faces, to rockstar poses! They crack me up and I’m blessed to be their mama!

PHOTO TIP: When photographing kids, be sure to give them breaks in between settings to get the wiggles out! Those are some of my fave shots and it keeps them fresh and engaged! {Click to Tweet}

Something that keeps me “warm” with the camera is being engaged in the Capture Your 365 community. The daily prompts keep ideas fresh, creativity flowing, and getting a shot top of mind! Have you joined the free email list yet? Hop on over and get your daily dose of inspiration 🙂 January 1st is a great time to start your daily (or weekly) photo project! No rules or expertise expected… just an awesome and supportive community to help you on your commitment to a fabulous photo project!

Make It Monday // Holiday Treat and Tag {Feeling Crafty}

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Rice Krispies treats with Hershey Candy Cane Kisses, Christmas, ornament, gift tag, DIY, quick, easy, hostess giftMakeItMondayButton-Christmas2Welcome to another Make It Monday! I have a major sweet tooth and love having treats year round. But when the holidays roll around, there are wonderful seasonal flavors that make the indulgence that much sweeter!

Have you tried Hersheys Candy Cane Kisses? They are amazing! Because of my sweet tooth, I have a hard time passing up seasonal candies, but truth be told, sometimes seasonal candies are better in concept than they actually taste in my mouth! So when I tried these, I was so delighted with how yummy they were!

Friends invited us over for outdoor movie night (yes, a southern California luxury in the middle of winter!) and I had decided to bring over some Rice Krispies treats. As I started making them, I decided I would chop up some of the Candy Cane Kisses to add to the treats. WOW! I seriously can’t even tell you how yummy they came out! If you are even a tiny bit into either of these treats (Rice Krispies and candy canes), then you MUST give this recipe a try!

Connie Hanks Photography // ClickyChickCreates.com // Rice Krispies treats with Hershey Candy Cane Kisses, Christmas, ornament, gift tag, DIY, quick, easy, hostess gift

Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp butter
  • one 10 oz bag (~6 cups) Jet-Puffed miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • 20 to 24 Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses, unwrapped

DIRECTIONS

  1. Chop up kisses into tiny pieces, set aside.
  2. Melt butter in large microwave safe bowl, approx 1 minute.
  3. Add marshmallows to butter. Toss to coat. Melt marshmallows in microwave (approximately 1-1/2 minutes), stirring every 45 seconds.
  4. Add Rice Krispies (2 cups at a time) to melted marshmallow mixture and stir well.
  5. Once all Rice Krispies are incorporated, mix in half of the chopped Candy Cane Kisses. Stir well. Incorporate remaining chopped Candy Cane Kisses.
  6. Place mixture into greased 13×9 baking dish. Press down and into place, filling in corners and evening out – using parchment paper and back of measuring cup helps to press down!
  7. Set aside and let set for a couple hours or place in refrigerator to speed up setting time.
  8. Cut up into one to two inch squares or use candy cane cookie cutters for shaped treats. Enjoy! Or share by place cut pieces into cupcake liners and stack in treat bag for your loved ones to enjoy, too!

What else could one need besides these delish treats? How about a gift tag to place on said treats to share with loved ones?! Here’s a quick video showing how I made a super fast (in just a few minutes!) ornament shaped gift tag using just a couple non-Christmas crafty supplies! Watch the video to see how you can easily make your tags!
